I've seen this video several times, and I just don't get the amount of force the cop uses. The guy did a burnout, on a side street that looks like it's seldom used, and yet the cop rolls up, sirens blaring, and steps out of the car, pointing his gun at the driver, safety off. He hold's the gun on the driver literally until he is cuffed. I think it's too much. He didn't rob a bank, have a weapon on him, and it wasn't even like there were others near by. The driver's undoubtedly getting a reckless driving charge, but personally, I think it's the cop that was being reckless. What do you think?

too little info to know what's going on... I mean, he didn't see the cop rolling up the street? That should tell you how much attention he was giving to his surroundings right there.

Fair enough, but it looked like they were in front of a auto shop where this sort of thing probably happens often.

He was recklessly driving on what I assume is a public road for some length of time. The force is definitely excessive, but the driver is still not the sharpest razor in the emo's bathroom drawer.

I think it's this: in teevee shows eeevil bad guys are constantly burning rubber trying to get away with their loathsome crimes, and the Heroic Officer always has to subdue them at gunpoint. Well, if you look inside this Heroic Officer's head I'll bet that's about half of the imaginative material in there, realer-than-real-life teevee adventure.
Between the godawful rubbish that the teevee pumped into his and our heads for several thousand hours when we were too young to resist, and the ridiculous training police get nowadays (shaved-head ex-military assholes barking "shoot-to-kill" cliches that they themselves absorbed watching teevee), our Heroic Officer was prepped up like Pavlov's dog, so when his limbic system was suddenly overstimulated by the sound of the squealing tires, his rational judgment got temporarily suspended.

In my humble, oppoinion, both ended up looking real stupid. The driver for not watching the big ass Suburban/Tahoe that was coming, and the Officer who thought he was in a Fast and Furious movie and was catching Dom on the act of a getaway. The Driver did not seem with the intention of trying to escape, i dont see the need for the gun. Also, why the handcuffs, at the most, the officer should take away his car and call a towing vehicle.

I disagree with what people are saying about it being wrong that the cop had his weapon drawn. I know people are always ready to shit on cops (and rightfully so a lot of the time), but the dude in the car is wielding a deadly weapon (the car) and flinging it around. If it was a kid in a civic frying his clutch in the back parking lot of an Ocean State Job Lot, I would say that pulling a gun would be excessive force. But that Chevelle (I think?) is much heavier and more powerful and could (more) easily kill someone on foot if someone inexperienced or intoxicated was driving it recklessly. He's also in a public roadway (and what looks to be somewhat residential, if not commercial... not the boonies) which is a lot different than fucking around in an empty lot at night. Either way, I think the drawing of the weapon was justified. You can't see if the safety is on or off from the video, so insinuating that the officer is bloodthirsty and out to kill is dumb.

Pointing a gun towards a donut making muscle car driver seems totally stupid. Even if the donut maker would have tried to run away that would have been unnecessary. And really dangerous criminals are probably going to do something other than donuts.
