Is it even worth commenting on the front page anymore?

I think since the new system was brought in I've been ungrayed once.

I've only been ungrayed once out of just around 6 comments... I don't like the system at all.

What's depressing in my case is that my ungraying was due to Matt Farah responding so I'm probably going to avoid commenting on normal Jalopnik posts.

The greying is absurd. I've only been un-greyed within Car Buying because I posted a picture of my old Baja Bug when Tavarish did that write up about Raph's the other day.

That sums it up best. The system was brought in to censor dodgy content but all it seems to do is give free passes to posts that the author personally likes.

Exactly. Tavarish approved me and that was that. First time I've ever commented there because I had relevant information, and probably the last time haha

I'm only ungrayed here and on jez. Deadspin ungrayed me for one comment I made but since then they're just gray. I don't think I've ever been ungrayed on jalop

I've only been ungrayed once, but I rarely comment on the FP anyhow.

I did try to make something of an effort to post the last time we had gray comments, but I didn't get ungrayed. IIRC, when they were touting the removal of the approval system, they were saying that they didn't have much time to sift through comments anyway. It's even harder when Jalopnik is small enough that they have to make several posts a day (at least compared to Kotaku , from what I've seen) to keep revenue flowing in, and the staff has to jump from one discussion to the next in quick succession - it's tough to get noticed. At least, that was my impression of how things were the last time around.

Now that they seem to have an image-blurring feature (which I thought was a meme when I first saw it, funnily enough), I wonder if they're considering a transition back to equal status - we'd still see pitches to work for Google from home for over $9,000 a month, though.

Kotaku UK doesn't use the Kinja system so I don't see why Jalopnik has too. Plus while a bit aggressive the Jalopnik comment section isn't toxic like so many other Gawker websites so can't those in charge of Jalopnik turn the system off.

I'm sometimes grey, sometimes not. It's weird!
