In the novels, 007 originally drove a 1933 Blower Bentley until it was destroyed in Moonraker. His love for Bentleys (Or Flemming's) was such that he elected to replace it with a Mark VI. Not bad, Mr Bond.

I think a part of my soul was also destroyed in Moonraker, the movie

The Moonraker novel is infinitely better. In it, the Moonraker is a British ICBM program, not some contrived space station nonsense.

I will be sure to sit down and read it then. Man the Broccolis took some license with that one...

As ridiculous as that movie is, I still love it. It's non-stop fun. He fights a snake! Jaws somehow survives re-entry and subsequent crash to Earth! The U.S. somehow has a squadron of space soldiers armed with laser guns that can be launched at a moment's notice. It's the pinnacle of action movie nonsense and Roger Moore is having a blast the whole time.

Apparently, the original intent was to follow the book more closely, but then Star Wars made an absolute fortune at the box office, and Broccoli figured he needed to get himself some of that cash.

Well that makes sense. Still wish we had a more faithful adaptation.

I always thought it would be cool to do the books as a TV series, a quality period piece set in the 1950s-1960s, following the internal timeline and doing everything as faithfully as possible. The Fleming series kind of provides a bit of a template for it. It would require a huge commitment though, you'd probably need 3-4 episodes per novel and 1 each for the short stories to do it right, and who knows if there would even be an audience.
