Sounds like Texas. Nobody here wants to pronounce Rio Grande right. In fact, the main drag in front of UT-Austin is "Guadalupe", but everybody pronounces is "GWADA-loop."

Well, heck, I pronounce Rio Grande the 'Merica way, but mostly because it is its own fully Americanized derivative. Spelled one way, and pronounced two, since time immemorial - and it doesn't "belong" to Mexico more than Texas. You can talk about "correct" Spanish, but it's also entirely true that a localization of a phrase rooted elsewhere can be legitimate. Take also Amarillo, TX, Leicester, NC, Los Angeles, CA, etc. etc. It's not "correct" to tell someone that they should really say "Am A REE Yo" just because it's the original Spanish pronunciation, any more than people in NC are wrong to say "Lee sester" rather than "Lester".
