Just wanted to make a short remark about what I've noticed (that we all already know) that practically everyone, the writers and even the readers here on Jalopnik get a hard-on for the Miata... and thats not a bad thing. After being a new owner I can see why!
After all it's always the answer :D
Heres a pic of my brother's recently acquired 1990, bone stock, 55k mile, Miata. A true classic
If you want to hear its story check it out here:

I personally don't quite get it. It's a decent roadster, but there are SO MANY other, more desirable vehicles. I have always thought they were so bland, styling-wise.

But how many of those other more desirable vehicles can you find in good running condition for around $1,000?

That also has it's own spec racing series and similar support?

Considering you can't REALLY find a good miata for around a grand (at least where I've been), I would have to say there are other options still. This collective miata hard on kinda reminds me of the Toyota Pickup thing that I fell for. Everyone will jump to tell you how much ass they kick and how they're selling for -$100 but in reality a car that actually works is gonna be a lot more. The miata is a fine car, but there are other options that some people seem to choose to ignore just so they can be part of the craze. Off the top of my head (a couple beers deep) MR2's, S30 Datsuns (a little more expensive but REALLY not by much), E30s (kinda obvious), Fox Body's, RX7 to an extent, Datsun 510s RWD Celicas and probably a few more I can't think of would be almost suitable replacements for a miata in my mind.
