It's almost that time of year: an Apple event with a new iPhone, etc... The "etc..." this year is the iWatch. It's still speculative of course, but it could happen. Most auto enthusiasts are typically at least admirers of watches for any number of reasons. I'd like to know what you would choose for a timepiece: 1) A modern digital watch or 2) a classic watch.

I picked other because I hate wearing a watch, or any jewelry really.

I'm a huge fan of Seiko/Pulsar and Nixon watches.. Why you say? Well, they are cheap, but still look great AND keep the time fairly well. That means more watches for less money :)

If the iWatch is pretty enough, I will add it into my rotation, but if not, I will stick with my TAG's.

The iWatch is likely to be announced, but not available until 2016. I'm an analog guy. Digital watches are nifty, and they give you a good sense of the time at that moment. What they don't convey is the relationship of the time now to other times. You can glance at an analog watch that reads 9:40 and based simply on the position of the minute hand you have a sense for how long you have until 10:00 without doing any math. I picked "Other" since I'm a Seiko guy.

Oh wow, that IS a gorgeous thing :) This is my daily driv.. uhm.. daily watch? Whatever, it's the watch I wear most of the time, a cheap and simple yet classic piece..

Definitely something about TAGs. What I actually wear though? Fossil, although mostly older stuff. they're gotten huge lately (like, physically)

Personally, although I really like TAG's and some Rolex watches, I love my G-Shock. It's absolutely perfect for what I need it to be, and has worked 100% perfectly with no problems whatsoever for the 2 or so years I've had it. None of those smart watches really do anything for me, I feel like they would be too fragile and something could break on them easily.

Huh. And here I sit wearing 5 bracelets and a ring. All metal though (silver, copper, copper, copper, cooper/brass/iron, gold). My watches are all metal as well, can't stand anything that isn't a little loose (leather, rubber, plastic, etc)

I occasionally wear a sweat band on my right wrist, but I can stand anything that has weight, or my limit movement. I don't even wear my wedding ring because it gets to uncomfortable, and I've literally had a panic attack in the past because a ring got stuck on my finger.

Classic all the way... That's not to say I wouldn't ever give a smart watch a whirl, but they really don't move me. I'm not into the high-end expensive stuff, but I wear a cheap mechanical watch every day.

I have one of these:
Why? Because I was promised a sci-fi future and if we can't have flying cars and space colonisation, we can at least have funky timepieces/decoration/jewelery. If I just wanna tell the time, I can whoop out my phone anytime. And no, I don't go to raves. :D

See, I'm exactly the opposite. Maybe it's because I see and use numbers all day everyday but I really have to think about analog clocks when I look at them. When I see numbers, it instantly clicks.
Different strokes for different folks I guess but I can't seem to find any nice digital watches.

left wrist /right wrist
Copper/Brass/iron combo - nothing special, found in a box cleaning up. It appears to be trying to rust on me, so i might not wear it much longer
Silver - "Untwisted" from
Studebaker Metals
- yeah, how could I resist with that name :D
Copper Chain (small) - $2 at Savers, decided I liked it
"Woven" Copper - Came from South Africa
Copper Chain (big) - Heaviest one here. Yes, thats an S-biner holding it together; its original clasp was crap

Laco B-Uhr on my wrist right now. Really neat horological significance, great looking, sturdy.
About 20 other watches at home. Make a smartwatch which will perform flawlessly for a decade, where I can service it (replace battery, band, etc), and platform agnostic so I can update phones without having to wonder about watch compatibility and I'll buy one. I like mechanical watches for the precision engineering behind them, and find the idea of wearing a tiny machine whirring away on my wrist too cool to resist.
Next watch purchase is going to be a TAG Heuer Monaco. Been thinking about it for almost two years, finally going to pull the trigger this fall. It'll join my Breitling Navitimer, Ball Engineer II, and the Rolex I inherited from my Grandpa as a "fancy watch I'll never sell." Somebody important to me is gonna get a bunch of cool, horologically significant timepieces when I'm gone, and I think that's a neat thing.
I'm 25, and have had peers ask me why I wear a watch. They mention they always have their phone in their pocket. You know why people invented wristwatches? So people wouldn't have to pull a damn pocketwatch out of their pocket all the time. Cell phones are the modern day pocketwatch. "What time is it? I don't know, let me check my pocket..."

I like an all metal analog watch. My last two have been Fossil, under $200, with the more recent one being black. I like it. Looks good, and doesn't break the bank. The next one I get will probably be a Citizen Eco-drive.

I don't define it as an "issue", but yeah its there. You can just make out some of it on my right wrist (in front of the small chain). I've had a solid 2 inch wide band of it before, bordering on blue in color. Bigger issue at the moment is the multi-metal on the left leaving brownish-orange rust marks

Probably be more concerned with tetanus :/
(except not really, cause its not actually the rust that causes it)
I'm probably going to stop wearing it when I start wearing a watch again (which, being a stainless steel Fossil, is heavy). my left wrist used to be watch only, no bracelets, but I haven't been able to get the silver to sit right with the other bracelets (its a lot tighter, so they get stuck on it)

Vintage. And real vintage, not reissues. Like this:
And not one that says TAG anywhere on it. And preferably a "chronomatic" rather than an "automatic chronograph". (Breitling owned the Chronomatic name, so finding one of these Siffert Autavias with Chronomatic script is really fucking hard.)

That's awesome. I can't see it going through a much tougher test than that. Last time I was looking for a watch I was interested in them, but my price point was a little lower than the ones I saw fit into.

Nixon let me down with some cheap design construction, but I'm with you: old-school mechanical-movement Swiss timepieces are such conspicuous consumption it's not even funny. Meanwhile even Timex makes some sharp looking watches. There's totally nothing wrong with $50-$150 wristwatches. Anything greater is often foppish.

I have a couple fossils. Their souvenir watches though, One form the hard rock cafe in DC (save the planet) and the other id from the 1999 superbowl (broncos). The movement is very accurate and the build quality is amazing

I like them. I haven't seen souvenir ones. That's pretty cool. The only issues I've had with them is the pins holding the bands together breaking. I'm pretty hard on a watch though, and it's a cheap fix. It's probably happened around 6 times with each of the two watches I've had.

fossil spring pins are pretty cheaply made. They do break easy. And they are cheap to replace, I have watch tools to do it, so I do all my maintenance except for batteries myself

I usually just take it to the Sears watch repair, and the pins they put in don't seem to break. I've found that the battery will last for more than two years.

That's really good. Watch batteries last fairly well, and then they're cheap to replace too. It's so much easier to look at my wrist for the time than to pull my cell phone out.
