MSU has nicer cars. And with lots of nice cars driven by college kids you get wrecks. Like this chrome Lamborghini that crashed on Grand River. Not my pic, my sister sent it to me, and it looks like its off MSU's Reddit page.

Up at PSU Behrend (Erie, PA campus) the professor lot was basically a Subaru showroom... which was nice. Not the "nice" you were looking for, but still neat.

I promise you Miami had nicer cars, lol.
Veyrons, SLRs, SLSs, many Lambos, Astons, AMGs as far as the eye could see.

Damn foreign exchange students... (-_-)
You wouldn't believe what I saw those students driving at that car show back in the spring. Just given the money to buy whatever the hell they want.

University of Miami? My brother goes there and the only time he sent me a picture of a cool car he saw was a gold chrome wrapped Maserati GranTurismo

Thus far I've seen a Ferrari California, couple of R8's, Phantom Convertible, BMW M (everything), couple of Aston Martins, etc.
Not bad for the first week of the semester. These exchange students sure love going to Walmart in style..

At Lehigh I haven't seen much cool stuff in my first few weeks as a freshman, although I've seen two brand new STIs and three different Ford SVT Raptors. Oh and theres some kid who drives his early 2000s s4 around with its ridiculously loud exhaust. They're all quite sensible considering we're on a mountain that gets a fair amount of snow

I graduated in 2012 and personally knew a kid with a Veyron, another with a DB9, another with an SLR, a girl with a Gallardo, and lots of V8 Vantages and AMGs

Just walk around on a non-football day and you'll see some interesting stuff. My sister actually complains about the number of Maserati's that have almost hit her.

Purdue has tons of foreign students (highest percentage wise when I went there 09-13) and as such there are tons of nice cars. Always funny seeing a yellow 458 driving around in the snow ... more money than sense!

Damn. Did they keep them on campus? Clearly my brother has been associating with the wrong people haha. Although he is much less into cars as I am, though he does enjoy them

Really? I was there from 00-05, and in my Super Senior year I kept seeing this total douchebag in a yellow Gallardo near the Human Ecology building. He wasn't a douche for having a Gallardo, mind you, he was a douche for putting oversized rims on it and peeling out everywhere he drove. (For those not familiar, East Lansing during the school week has traffic which makes Manhattan look like the goddam Autobahn.)
Aside from that, yeah I remember seeing a fair amount of "speedy cars". The GM employee's kids drove Saab 9-3's (RIP :( ) and Suburbans (with the rare Escalade and H2 for good measure), the Ford kids drove Navigators and Mustang GTs, the Chrysler kids drove 300M's and Durango's (but mostly Grand Cherokee's), the kids from Grand Rapids (the only wealthy part of our state not entirely dependent on the Big 3) drove 3-series, X3's, A4's, C-klasses, RX-300's, and S40's. A few of the exchange students had even better rides: Mk IV Supra, FD3S RX-7, and a massively modified 350Z are the three I remember most vividly. This was of course during the early days of the Fast & Furious franchise, and drifting was quickly gaining recognition in the US car magazines, so of course these all had overwrought BOVs that could be heard at the 7-11 near Pi Kapps.
Of course back then these were the cars that stood out amongst the sea of beater Cavaliers and WJ Grand Cherokee's festooned with sorority stickers in the rear windows (seriously, I think there were 25 in the Zeta's parking lot alone). MSU is much more affluent now, it seems.

it looks like it was near Asian House or a Taste of Thai. Fun Fact: At least 3 people drove though the front window of Asian House (and it's previous Chinese incarnations) when I was at MSU.

Relative to the campus, they are on Grand River, near the Bogue St. Intersection (The N/S street which runs past the Business College and Mason-Abbot/Snyder-Phillips halls.)
Off campus, I'd say Oade's Big-10, 7-Eleven, and the east-side QD are the best landmarks. You know, all the places that sell booze. LOL. Also, QD Turkey Buddies at 2:30 a.m. were my salvation.
ETA; Apparently Asian House went out of business. It was probably the worst Chinese/Phô restaurant in EL. It made the Rice Kitchen look like Nobu. Nothing of value was lost.

I think I was just lost in the see of those beater Cavaliers and WJ's. I'm thinking back now and I do remember a couple fancy ones like the X3's. The vehicle I remember the most was the Sorority SUV of Choice the 1st Gen Jeep Liberty (with greek letters of course).
I was always too busy being obsessed with my first S10 Blazer, which was faster than a lot of those newer/fancier cars due to what we did while rebuilding the engine.
Ever remember seeing this around campus in 05? It had NJ plates in 05 though. God I swear New Jersey swarmed MSU after my Sophomore year. They all followed me.

Believe it or not, I actually DO remember seeing that Blazer! I was a big fan off the rear visor spoiler and the Spartan tire cover. It was pretty clean, too.
You picked a good time to go. You never had the misfortune of holding season tickets during the Bobby Williams/Jeff Smoker era.
I don't recall seeing as many high-end cars my freshman year as I did my 5th year. I think after 2001 MSU really started to attract more affluent kids as admissions to U of M grew increasingly competitive. I used to scoff when snobbish U of M kids would claim that their college was "basically a public Ivy", but now I believe them: their students are either incredibly gifted foreign exchange students or the grand children of someone who donated a building, and their football team sucks. Just like the Ivy League! #FailtotheVictors

WOOHOO SOMEONE REMEMBERS MY TRUCK! It was normally running around by X Lot and Hubbard Hall, where I lived for 4 years straight!
Run down of the engine upgrades since you remember it:
bored 60 over
ported heads
upgraded valves/springs and roller rockers
exhaust
That Rear Spoiler was stock by the way It did a great job of forcing air onto the back window because there wasn't a wiper lol.
I unfortunately held season tickets for a couple years of John L Smith though...
Thankfully I was there for the start of the Dantonio era. I expect his name on some buildings in our future.
As for MSU vs U of M academics, when I was applying from out of state...the academic requirements were almost the same. And I was applying for the business schools. Both were in the top 15 in the country for Marketing. It came down to campus/feel. I hated u of m because it doesn't have a legit "campus". If I wanted that set up I would have stayed in NJ and went to Rutgers (where my Grandpa graduated from back in 56).
I ended up switching to CommArts for Advertising (Which I still say is the land of lost Marketing Majors, people either switch because they can't keep the GPA up for Eli Broad or because they realize Marketing is all boring numbers and want a more fun life in Advertising!). MSU's Ad program is in the top 5 in the country, oh and Michigan doesn't offer it as a major.

I am dying over here! The X lot wasteland! "Sure, you can have a car at MSU. But you have to park it 2 miles away from any building you need to be in and it will most likely get broken into if you have a CD book in the car." I remember this one over the top Dodge Neon. Blue with the white Oreca stripes, yellowed lamps, and Oreca decals, a fire extinguisher on the A-pillar, and a vanity plate that read (I shit you not) "ALLSHOW". I never did hear it run, so I can't say whether or not it was legit. But it was always parked to the far east end, closest to the Power Plant.
The distinct lack of a campus was by biggest turn off from U of M, as well. I had a decent GPA in HS and scored well on the ACT, but I knew even back in 1999 that I would probably get waitlisted at U of M, even as an in-state student. In those years U of M was getting to be pretty notorious for giving some preference to out of state students and exchange students; partially due to political pressure on the MI Dept. of Ed's budget (the excess tuition was very appealing to the school), and partially because they wanted to position themselves with the Ivy League schools as far as academic achievement goes.
I applied to MSU because I had fallen in love with the quantitative aspects of Marketing ( I openly admit here that I particpated in DORKA , and crushed it! I have many medals from HS, entirely in DECA and wrestling. I miss winning medals. I wish adults could win medals more often, but I refuse to enter a marathon or tri just to get a participation medal; also I hate running ) and wanted a degree in marketing. Your analysis hit the nail squarely on the head, BTW. I was waaaaaaaaay too invested in the social aspect of college, and as such did not have the adequate GPA to continue in the Broad school. I was crushed at first, but after careful research decided that it was a blessing in disguise. As you full well know, MSU's CAS is a pioneer in the fields of Organizational Communication, Telecommunications, Advertising, and is the leading research university in these areas. So I ended up majoring in Organizational Communications with concentrations in General Business Management and Human Behaviorial Sciences. I think the program has changed it bit since I graduated 10 years ago, it seems to have a larger variety of specific trajectories; back when I was there the structure was a bit more loose. I will admit that back then, there were 2 types of Comm Arts students: the ones who were aimless and looking to graduate with any major that wasn't Kinesiology, and the ones who actually wanted to participate in the research side of the program. I had a great time, and learned a great deal about qualitative and quantitative research, meta data analysis, the various institutional biases which occur without fail in even the best laid studies (e.g. - why network news opinion polls are total garbage and should be ignored), how to craft a valuable study, etc. Ultimately I ended up in sales and territory management (which is funny because now MSU even has a Sales Communications major); I've bounced around between automotive and medical devices (and now I'm sort of tentatively looking into heavy equipment sales in oil & gas, they are recruiting surgical sales people heavily these days and the money is insane).
I have no regrets now with my choice of major; I learned that after 3 years no one cares what you majored in or your GPA, its all about experience, and that the job market is flooded with aimless marketing majors who all thought they were going to learn advertising, but never actually did. While the old joke might be "another Journalism major enters the workforce", the fact is that I think that more readily applies to business majors IF they don't learn how to differentiate, specialize, and apply themselves. As much as I loved MSU, my biggest grievance used to be that they mass produced grads with little direction, though in the upside that did force me to learn to find that direction on my own. I hear now they are much more involved in post-graduate placement and their internship requirements.
Do you still have that Blazer?

They are more involved these days. I worked my ass off when I got to Advertising though. There's a couple directions (and then subdirections) you can take in ADV.
Creative - then art direction or copywriting (sub sections in Digital)
Account
Public Relations
I did all of the above, AD, Copywriting, Digital, Account, Public Relations, Media (subsect from account side), everything I could. I knew the job market sucked and I wanted to take any job opportunity I could in Automotive Advertising.
I had 2 internships, one during school, one right after I graduated (I sought them out myself btw) from there I'm not at my 3rd major Automotive Advertising Agency since graduating in 08 and my 6th position. Advertising was a great change in major for me.
Unfortunately I sold that Blazer to get an 04 blazer which didn't have as many rust issues, and my (at the time) fiance didn't hate.
I then sold the 2nd Blazer for a responsible family good on gas 07 Mercury Milan.
I want the old Blazer back so bad, it was last seen in Okemos at a Toys R Us a few yeas ago.
