I just wrote a 3-page essay on my phone after my tablet's battery died. Holy hell. Thank god for Word for mobile and skydrive. At least I was able to get some work done.

No Voice-To-Text? Or does it not work so well for your phone?

Oh god. My school gave us Chromebooks, and they are the worst thing ever.

Dude, phones rule. My s5 has served to configure two routers, access the internet, scan shit, write letters, email and whatever else, all while my PC sits in a box at my new house. For the past 8 weeks. Shows how useful PCs are nowadays.

If only Kinja was better over the phone.

We got the Lenovo models meant for education. They are slow, have bad trackpads, and have trouble connecting to wifi.

Yep, between my tablet (x86, runs full windows) and my phone (WP8, so all my shit syncs between them) I have found myself leaving the Thinkpad at home and I hardly ever use my desktop any more. I even have an xbox controller in my bag that I plug into the tablet, fire up Steam in Big Picture Mode and then play some Burnout Paradise if I get bored. It's pretty damn sweet.

And yeah, my phone compliments it perfectly. I have a port of PuTTY for WP8 on it that I use to talk to my Raspberry Pi and do IRC and such shenanigains from in tmux sessions, I listen to music on it, and do Word stuffage. My only complaint is that mobile IE just isn't quite there, though that may just be because some sites have no idea what to do with touchscreen devices (no way to hover a mouse over certain elements).

The phone I typed all that on is a Lumia 521 I got fofr $35 from target. Phone is usually a Lumia 925, but it's getting fixed right now :/

It works fine, but I don't want to sit here dictating to my phone in a room of people. Also punctuation is always hit-or-miss with that.

..why? I have a tablet, which is far more functional than a chromebook as it runs full windows. The battery died because I haven't charged it in three days, but I can usually do anything I want to on here. Steam games, Word, internet browsing, youtube, etc. on a decent 16:10 touchscreen. I have a Bluetooth keyboard for it and once I get a Bluetooth mouse I doubt I'll be using my desktop much anymore.

That thing uses a glorified atom CPU and emmc. My wife's has a haswell CPU and an SSD. Basically a really cheap macbook air that only runs chrome.

When's MS going full MS-Android? It needs to happen.

1, Bluetooth mice suck. 2, Do you run full Windows or Windows RT? 3, I hate tablets, For a cheap portable computer I'll take a Chromebook, for a good quality portable computer I'll take a Macbook Air, anything else is my desktop. I just hate using a tablet's interface. Aside from just standing around holding one they're worse ergonomically for trying to do any real work.

Full Windows 8 pro. Is there input lag or something with BT mice? cos the only USB port on here (Dell venue 8 pro I got for $200) is miniUSB and adaptors are bulky and annoying, so I'd like to just go with Bluetooth everything.

The Metro UI is really nice on a touchscreen. I have Windows 8 on all of my computers but on my tablet I rarely find myself on the regular Windows desktop.

Windows 8 really really favors tablets, I had it on my Macbook Air and it drove me nuts. MacOS does multitouch gestures with a trackpad really well where Microsoft only designed it around touchscreen interfaces. I bought a bluetooth mouse to use with my macbook air and I bought a Microsoft one because I wanted to use it in Windows and Mac and it was pretty awful. From what I've read they're all pretty awful except for the Apple one but I hate Apple's mice.

It was a little laggy but it's just generally awful in every aspect. For $200 that's not bad though. I just hate the thought of using a table to accomplish actual work because you're either locked into a table or desk like a desktop or your typing on the screen.

Glad to see you're not taking my opinion as a dictation on how to live your life though. So many people see me say I hate something and act like I told them to throw away their stuff.

Yeah, Windows is utter shite on a touchpad. Mouse? Passable. Touchscreen? Fantastic. Touchpad? Kill me now. The edge-swipes are way too easy to do on accident on a tiny touchpad, and it's way harder to "toss" the cursor into the corner/edge of the screen to activate whatever menu it is you're after. And no Windows laptop has touchpads as good as those on Mac laptops. Seriously, if Apple has done anything right it's their retina displays and their trackpads.

I use Windows 8 on my tablet, my Thinkpad (trackpoint only, which is preferable to a trackpad for W8 once you get used to it), and my desktop (touchpad built into a Logitech keyboard, utterly awful).

I was thinking of getting an Arc Mouse, but since money is difficult to come by I was just going to get some cheap-ass generic Bluetooth mouse that looks like an Apple Magic Mouse knockoff for the semi-rare occasion I need to hover a cursor over something or come across a site that doesn't like touchscreens.

Yeah, people get way too defensive about their purchases sometimes. Life gets easier once people realize that not everyone has the same reasons for buying something, and need to stop forcing their lifestyle onto other people. Little thing that bugs me, like when people bitch at me for modifying my Buick instead of buying a new car. Obviously I'd love a NA Miata with an LS swap, but that really isn't in the cards.

I can come off like a bitch but I'm just voicing my opinion. I'd never expect anyone to be forced to emulate my life. We'd all be a bunch of nutjobs.

I had the original arc mouse and I loved it. The only problem is it folded up so small I lost it. If you want a mouse in the style of an apple magic mouse you should just buy an apple mouse. They're supposed to be the best bluetooth mice out there.

I agree I can tolerate Windows 8 on the desktop with a mouse but on a trackpad drove me nuts. It probably would have bugged me less if apple hadn't done such a good job using trackpads with MacOS.

People are way too sensitive to stuff said on the internet.

Small is good, I have limited space in my bag and limited money for a Magic Mouse (aren't they like $80?)

I think so but maybe you could pick up a mighty mouse or some other apple bluetooth mouse that doesn't have touch on ebay cheaper.

I imagine it should be decent because a lot of Mac owners dual boot into Windows. I did a lot of research looking for good bluetooth mice and from everything I read these are the only ones you would even consider decent. I thought that was an exaggeration until I bought a Microsoft one and hated it.
