The wife and I are going up there for a little weekend getaway in October. What are some interesting things to do/see, good places to eat, etc?
Have a Minneapolis-Moline UDLX ComforTractor for your troubles.

First place I recommend eating is Khans Mongolian BBQ.

Places to eat? That's not easy because there are so many great places. Things to do are many, it all depends what you are into.
Also good for you for including a pic of the comfort tractor.

I love old-school Mongolian joints. Do they serve their stuff with that thin "rice bread" (kinda similar to tortilla but lighter and tastier)?
I miss living in a town with one of these things. BD's is not the same and never will be.

Minneapolis MN? I would totally recommend Hell's Kitchen for places to eat. It's a little irreverent but the food is amazing. Mitch Omer is the founder, super awesome guy, I have his cookbook, and it's basically my cooking bible.
Another place that's really cool is Psycho Suzi's Motor Lounge. Badass tiki bar.
Something that's a little more touristy is the Walker Art Center sculpture gardens. It's going to be a bit chilly in October though but definitely a cool place.

They do serve it with the kind of bread you're describing. If you go after 5pm, you also get sweet bread included with your meal, which is totally worth it.

Food? Jeez... in downtown, Hell's Kitchen, Barrio, Smack Shack, and many others. Prices aren't bad. Want to spend a little more? Murray's for great cow. Want to spend a lot? Manny's for even better cow. If you're traveling around the area, go to Mancini's in St. Paul or the 5-8 Club for a juicy lucy (or Matt's Bar... the 5-8's longtime rival). Psycho Suzi's is great for drinks, too.
The craft/micro beer thing has exploded here - breweries and taprooms abound - and craft/micro distilling is taking off. Unless you're a glutton for punishment, stay away from the local wine.
Do? Check out the Guthrie Theater, even if only to wander around and have a drink. It's a wild building. Next to it is the Mill City Museum and the mill ruins. There's also the Walker Art Center and sculpture garden ( SPOON! The battlecry of flatware. ). The Weisman art museum is on the University of Minnesota campus, and we even have a Russian art museum about 10 minutes south of downtown.
Car stuff? There's the Ferrari/Maserati/Bentley dealer out in Minnetonka, about 15 minutes west of the city. Depending on where you're from, it may or may not be better than what you've got in your hometown. There are also a few specialty car places in the area, but not really in downtown proper. Google is your friend there. Most of the regular car shows would have ended for the season by late October.
