My buddy had almost the exact setup in his Miata and it still made almost no power.

Really? Can you elaborate?

Same setup and similar mileage as mine (though mine's a 96). Make sure idle and initial tip-in is good...Even after years of tweaking I've never been able to get mine just right. I'll probably be selling mine in the spring but will be pulling the SC first since the car is worth the same with or without it and the SC kit by itself goes for >1k.

Seems suspicious to me.

Why's that?

I down vote all Miatas!

Seems too cheap for what it is. Just a clean NB with that Mileage should cost more without a supercharger.

I'm surprised. I thought the values on these were higher. I figured it be around $8000 to sell it, but it looks like my guess was a bit high.

Well it's in the middle of nowhere, so that might factor in.

And it used to have a dying problem. I've been talking to the owner.

I've seen a couple come and go on the local craigslist with listing prices of about 4-5k. Assuming they were talked down I expect they actually sold for around 3.5-4k. Stock in similar condition sells about the same or more. There've been a couple listed at higher prices, but they didn't move.

The M62 by itself on ebay goes for 1-2k. With the pulleys, fittings, piping, TB, etc you can tack on another ~500.

Also, it looks like this guy is running the Jackson Racing power card. I could never get that thing to run right and switched over to a Flyin Miata Voodoo box which solved a lot of the stumbling and dying at idle issues I had. I'd probably dock the price ~400 bucks just for that.

This is arguably better except for the hail damage: http://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/4649720932…

Well except it's higher mileage, faded front bumper, and older (depending on who you ask)

That's interesting though, but too far from Wichita. My sister lives in Knoxville though.

Really the supercharging is not worth the money, he was running maybe 4-5 psi which I don't know if that is a lot for a Miata supercharger but really all it did was make a whining noise when he drove fast, it added a complicated system to the very simple engine and the money that was spent making it go faster could have been spent making it turn better which in reality for a car like the Miata is where the money should be going unless you are considering an engine swap. My best bet for a Miata would be an SR20, or a 13B, and if you're feeling really adventurous an LS.

Atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi, so assuming you aren't also chilling/condensing the air, 4-5 psi would get you 30% more power in a perfect world. IE no friction, no work to turn the compressor, and no heat which lowers air density.

So figure on a 140 hp Miata, you might gain 30 hp peak. If boost is 5 psi through the whole power band, gains of 10-20 hp lower down. If boost builds to a max of 5, the dropoff would be dramatic enough to make it a waste of time.

Yep, it maybe made an extra 20-30 at the wheels optimistically. He said if he did it again and wanted more power he would just have a better platform swapped in. He was itching do to an SR swap.
