How early Z are you thinking of?

Peronally I'd nix the Beetle (I remember being cramped in the backseat when I was only five so I can't imagine one now.) and the MGB (Lucas electrics scare me.) I'll probably never end up owning something British.

S30, but I'm going to have trouble finding one that doesn't need tons of work and I'm on a tight budget.

I'd probably just rip the backseat out if I were to get one, Lucas terrifies me also.

Just some FYI, by "early" I mean 1969 - 1971 vs 1971-1973. The earlier ones are more valuable by far, but are much more prone to rust.

You should be able to a low-rust, running 280Z for under $5000 depending on where you are.

There aren't many for sale in this area, I've been eyeing this one. But I don't really know about it not being registered, and it being on the top end of my $5,000 budget.

260Zs are fairly rare, as they were only made for one year.

What are you planning on doing with it? I found a 280ZX turbo swapped 240Z, without pictures though.

If the body is clean on this, it would be totally worth it. Doubt that's the case, but you need pics.

I'd like to do the work myself, I'm a big built not bought person. I'd prefer to just get it to stock in good running condition and then as time goes on start to modify.

You're going to have a much harder time to do that than finding one that someone else has already started. Just the nature of the market.

There's plenty to build on a car that's already running with an engine swap, since even the 180ZX turbo motor (stock 180HP) can be built to over twice its HP (~400HP) before things get crazy.

If you get it stock in good running condition do not modify it . You will ruin its value and cost yourself far more than if you had left it stock. If you're doing a restomod, start with a project.
