I have to say that one of the reasons I am acquiring this was because of the Torchbug's super good luck power. I went up the coast this weekend to meet my girlfriends dad, and I knew he had a bunch of old cars lying around. Since my girl knew I wanted to photograph the bug all over the place, she brought me to one of his storage properties first, where I fell in love with the "Rose Mist" 63 Buick Invicta wagon (haters to the left please). After we left we went to his house for lobster where I chatted with him about it and got shut down. After a while of talking more somehow it was gifted when he decided I was a good guy and ok for his daughter to be dating. So here it is in all of it's glory. Need to hunt up an air cleaner. Has a 401 Buick nailhead in it stock that runs. A little bit of body work if I want to go down that path, and a little interior work and cleaning (how the hell am I going to find a swatch of that plaid to do the drivers seat). I may just clear over the patina and rock it though as is after I find some new whitewalls for it. Brakes work too. More of the Torchbug element of this weekend in a bit once I parse through 250 pics or so.

yeah it really needs some love. Just been sitting the past 2 years. Pretty solid though! Cannot wait to bring it home (I backed it into a garage to go over it next time I am up there so I am sure it makes the 3 hour trek home)

Don't forget to get that latest Blipshift-plaid for extra special good luck! Or get a massive amount of those and cut out the plaids, maybe they just blend in at the driver's side. Great minds think alike because first thing on my mind was (I always first scroll the pictures before reading) 'awesome plaid but where can one still get it from?'

Awesome gift, where DO you find time for all this...

haha I saw the post on the plaid blip shirt and was thinking the same thing. Actually between 50+ hours a week with work and 2 kids, I don't know. I don't watch TV or play video games so that saves me some time during the week. Beer time = car time I guess :)

I don't know under what circumstances they do or don't have wire issues, but I do know that if you have an engine with completely pointless spark plug covers, you need to preserve that, because it's cool.

Okay, this is going to sound crazy. If you want to find that pattern, find someone who is Scottish or of Scottish descent.

No no wait don't leave! I'm not that crazy!

Granted, this mythical person is going to need to be well-versed in Scottish history and/or traditions. They might be able to deduce what pattern that tartan is. If it's an official pattern, then it's going to be as simple as finding someone who can just make you a serious amount of the cloth. It's probably going to cost you a fair amount. If it's not official, you might still be able to find a person who makes tartans who could reproduce the pattern. It might not be perfect, so you would probably have to reupholster all of the tartan cloth in the car.

(how the hell am I going to find a swatch of that plaid to do the drivers seat)

Ask a car upholsterer - they usually have plenty of sources and might be able to point you towards similar patterns.

As logical as the 'find a proper expert on scottish tartans' advice is, I highly doubt that Buick used proper scottish clan tartans.....

Might be entertaining to actually pick out a random Scots tartan... dig through a few quick history documentaries and find who you think is the biggest badass and use their tartan. Good juju for the whole family as they fill the seats.

Start with some of the highland clans... they were particularly action-movie-worthy.

Kinja'd!!! deekster_caddy > 505Turbeaux
09/30/2014 at 12:42

Kinja'd!!!1

I have a couple different ones laying around. Right now I have a stock 455 air cleaner on my motor that has a repop Buick "350-2" sticker on it for stealthyness... I have a couple other ones for quadrajets in a bin. (you mean the housing, or the filter?)

Kinja'd!!! 505Turbeaux > deekster_caddy
09/30/2014 at 12:45

Kinja'd!!!0

the housing. It is a stock nailhead 401/455 torque carb on there and I just like it original. So something like this?

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!! deekster_caddy > 505Turbeaux
09/30/2014 at 12:52

Kinja'd!!!0

401/425 nailheads had the older model 4v Rochesters, but not a 'quadrajet' as we know them from the 70's. The bases are different, different ID opening to the carb. The 400/430/455s of the very late 60's and up had Quadrajets and a different air cleaner base.

edit - something like this one might work: (4bbl)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960s-Buic…

edit again - or this one, with more PATINA!!! (2bbl)

ah ok, I know it is a 4 barrel "445" (missed by 10 in original post). Haha patina is fine, just want to make sure I keep the dirt out of her till I can paint some stuff under hood. As far as the car I may just clear over the patina and drive it.

Kinja'd!!! deekster_caddy > 505Turbeaux
09/30/2014 at 13:51

Kinja'd!!!1

Okay - yeah, the "445" is very confusing, since it's a 401ci - 445 is supposed to be the HP or something, which it is not... it's just a number indicating the engine. It comes up all the time, people have a "Wildcat with the 445" (or 455) - no, it's a 401... the 455 is all too popular of a Buick powerplant, so they get mixed up frequently. And people also think all the time that the 445 means that's the displacement, again mistaken.

At least you knew it had a 401! Which is a great engine BTW.

Did you bring this thing home yet? Have it running/driving? Or still just looking for the aid cleaner... Must have update!

Kinja'd!!! 505Turbeaux > deekster_caddy
09/30/2014 at 13:59

Kinja'd!!!0

yeah it was supposed to be like 325HP, 445 Torque which may have been possible when new. It runs, it drives, but is way up north by 3.5 hours. I meant to go up this weekend and prep it for the trip down, oil change, new tires (need help with this, what do you recommend that has a white stripe on it, 15x7.65x 90 sidewall ratio) inspect brakes, clean drums out and make sure all the lights work and clean all the spiders out of it. However my girlfriends jeep ate its starter on the way up and I had to fix that instead. And then beer happened. Ill be back up in 2 weeks, can likely prep it then but will have my kids with me, which can help or hurt. I am in love with the "rose mist" factory color. You are down Boston way, right?

Kinja'd!!! deekster_caddy > 505Turbeaux
09/30/2014 at 14:15

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, Boston-ish (north side). See if you can measure the O.D. of the carb where the air cleaner sits, I have a couple of later quadrajet ones but I'll see if they fit.

You may want to bring a trailer... last on the road in '00? That's a long time to be sitting to go for a 3.5 hour drive without a full brake overhaul. I wouldn't be surprised if it runs and drives, but stopping is another matter - I bet all the brakes are frozen and stuff. If you do get it moving and don't have a chance to pull the drums off and bleed new fluid through, take it slow!

(unless it's been stored indoors, which it doesn't look like from your pics - then the brakes might be better off, but still a fluid bleed through at minimum)

I'm getting my '73 fully roadworthy after years of sitting. I've been using it, but replacing all of the brake lines and rubber hoses is on my list, along with caliper rebuilds, etc. Mostly flushed through with DOT5 fluid and a new master cylinder are done, the rest is for when I have some spare time (ha ha ha).

that was last time it was safety inspected. It was last used regularly in 2012 by my girlfriends brother as a taxi of sorts but with antique plates. Gas tank was filled and stabilized at that point and has been run around the block until this spring once in a while. So I have faith in it, and I actually kind of want to make the drive. When I get it up and running well I will take a trip with it down to see you. It is only 1.5 hours that way! I will measure the OD of that carb or send someone to do it. Hoping the cleaner is in one of the boxes in the back, but who knows
