I used my monitor once that way. It was great for reading PDFs. Didn't last long because mine's a 27", and to look at the top you had to tilt your head up.

That's one of the many new features. It uses touch-free technology to avoid smudges!

This used to be A Thing, before monitors commonly had the resolution to display two letter-sized pages side by side. The big gimmick was you could see a really good representation of a portrait-oriented document onscreen. I think there were even CRTs that could be twisted like that.

Like you said, seems weird now.

My current monitor can do that. Hooray, perks of dropping a grand on a visual display!

Lucky you! Though I don't regret the purchase at all.; the resolution, number of inputs, color accuracy, and adjustability are phenomenal.

I disagree, for a theatre history class we had readings that were only available online, they were not PDFs and how they were formatted on the website they would not stretch out with a wider browser window, to keep from scrolling every five seconds flipping the monitor to a Portrait orientation made reading so much easier.

It's not a gimmick, it's actually helpful in some situations.

Wow, that's cool! Makes sense there are still some good applications, I just couldn't think of one. Actually it would be handy for reading a lot of older documents; it's just not quite as needed for editing as it once was.

I'm running dual 23" monitors in portrait mode right now. With most applications designed to scroll up and down, it just makes sense. I never thought much of it until I came across this post. I've had a few people look at my desk in amazement when they see the setup. But I'm in IT, everything we do is voodoo to the rest of the world.

If I wrote serious copy I could see stacking two of these side-by-side, especially if I wanted to publish a book.
