Repost for more info. So, what does everyone know about the 2005 3.0L LL Bean Outback?
Is the 3.0L a good engine? Does it have the same head gasket issues that the other engines do? Anyone with experience getting one serviced?

A friend of mine has had one for about a year. He bought it with 90-something-thousand miles on it and has driven it to Florida a number of times. As far as I know, he hasn't had any problems with it. Thats the extent of my knowledge though. Ahaha

This drive to Florida, how far is that for your friend? Are they on the border in Georgia, or are they driving several days in a row to reach America's Schlong?

Oh, right... Context. Duh.
This would be a 21 hour drive without traffic, so including traffic definitely be over (potentially well over depending on how DC is feeling) 22 hours. He's done this trip twice in the last two months, just so you get an idea of frequency.

I work with a guy who worked for Subaru a few years ago, said these are great, much more reliable than the H4 apparently. No personal experience though.

IT'S A VEHICLE I WANT IN MY GARAGE.
I love LL Bean and have plenty of it in my closet. I'm a lesbian. I live twenty minutes from the Subaru factory (BRZ ground zero).
I SHOULD OWN THAT WAGON.

My buddy has one although it might be a bit older. I drove it back from the cape and a couple other times including in a repeated circle around one particular light pole in a snowy parking lot. I guess my actions caught the attention of the snow plows sitting there and made them decide it was time for another cleaning pass. Its not going to get you to a new adrenaline level but its not bad. It does have a ton of space. It will get damaged if you crash it into a fence or large snow banks (yea he tries to hoon but can't) I know he had to replace wheel bearing and a caliber but i guess thats nothing odd for a 2004ish car. For a V6 its not that quick but thats not really its selling point. it does handle snow well. I would imagine a 4cyl would be miserable in that car.

From what I was reading a couple of weeks ago, the 2.5 is far and away the worst for head gasket issues, and the 3.0 should be much better.
Also, are the Eddie Bauer edition Explorer and the LL Bean Outback direct competitors in the world of green outfitter-licensed AWD wagon-things? Haven't really thought about that before.
