Drive what makes you happy.
Honestly, it really is that simple. We spend so much time these days researching and comparing. Watching 'experts' who have different tastes, backgrounds, and perspectives offer their opinions on a vehicle as if they can experience the car for us.
We cross-shop, seeking advice from others about the 'best' vehicle in a given class, something that always has and always will be subjective.
Whether you drive an automatic or a manual, a sedan, truck, wagon, or hatchback, whether it's from Japan, Germany or Korea.
Within reason, the same motto applies to modifying vehicles. As long as they are not so extreme as to endanger or or impede on the rights of others, go ahead and lift your truck. Stance your Civic. Or, your goal may be to keep your vehicle as showroom fresh and new looking as possible. It's not about how others see you, it's about enjoying and experiencing the vast landscape of the automotive world from your own, unique perspective.
Sincerely,
My Versa, which every reviewer and Internet know-it-all seems to hate, and winner of spot number 5 on MSN's 'Ugliest vehicles of 2013' list. But it makes me happy.

But if people on the internet couldn't shit on other people for owning cars they "hate", they could never make long diatribes on said internet about how much they hate said cars and how said cars give them cancer, kill puppies, and shit.

This MR2 and E60 owner agrees with you.

Ear to ear grin. It's so happy! This is a car that's just happy to be a car. It exists and thats enough for it. Sunny day? Even better. Happy car is happy.

There is so much truth in this!

That's the perfect motto for this car. It's 4 wheels, a 1.6L 4 cylinder, 5-speed manual and nothing else. Can't stop smiling.

Fuck yo ugly-ass car and the clown car it rode in on!

Respect sir. I agree completely.

Amen Smudgey.
Nobody knows what scratches your itch as well as you do. So drive what you love, and love what you drive. I love some cars others find boring, just because they somehow "fit" me. And there are other great cars that somehow just don't speak to me. But if they work for someone else, and they really enjoy them, more power to them.

Yes, definitely. Unless it's a prius.

Exactly my point. Have all of my stars, sir/madam.

Watch that smile though once you start playing with that shifter a little too much...

I had a stripped last-gen Versa as a rental a while ago, and it was a great reminder of how much stuff I don't actually need in a car. Not to say I don't want power windows and door locks, but it's good to be reminded those are luxuries.

I have to admit I cringe a little when I think of someone actually loving a Prius. But I suppose it can happen.

Mine also lacks power windows/locks/etc. it was a sacrifice I made for the manual transmission, but I think it's in the character of the vehicle to exclude those features. I feel more in tune with driving/the road/my surroundings by not having all those luxuries. And if I want to be pampered, I also own a Panther, which is an entirely different story, but still a love of mine.

I can't see it from behind the wheel. IJS.

You and I are of One Mind, sir...can hardly agree more!

I couldn't agree with you more. Vehicles are an expression of ourselves. Who cares what the world thinks because when it comes down to it, it's going to be you not the world behind that wheel for years to come.

You sir, are wrong. Did you know that for (insert Versa MSRP) you could have easily bought (insert clapped-out project car - like a rusty E36 with a blown engine) with enough money for (insert ridiculous modification that all but eliminates drive-ability) and it would easily destroy (insert name of late-model sports car).
Clearly you are a (insert choice derogatory word for homosexual) .

Thank you, every internet forum ever. That's what I like about this blog: there's very little of that bullshit.

I could've gotten, like, .6 V6 Mustangs! Shame on me...

I'm a big fan of the Versa. And yours is a stick, iirc. You're a man with his priorities in order.

It is indeed.

Omg, AND crank windows? This is most jalop a modern car could be!

maybe if it had more of a rear overhang...

Y'know, other than the headlights that are trying too hard, that is actually a really nice-looking hatchback. One of the few cases lately where the side scallops really work and give the car a sense of dynamism.
Also totally with you on the less-is-more front. Think '89-'91 Honda Civic Si or Golf Mk2.

I didn't find the vehicle super attractive when I bought it a week ago, considering I was intending to buy a Versa sedan, but the looks are growing on me.
