One of the coolest X3's I've seen. Specs on the lift? Nice E30 too!

20 years! No way! You got it before it was an Internet icon.

This means you have reached Oppo God status!

hartge makes a kit for it called the hunter, I inquired about it and was quoted $1700 for the suspension, so I started measuring, checking clearances and looking for parts that shouldn't work together to achieve the desired result. I've got 3000 miles on it and it rides perfect, I'll take it apart soon to check and see where I can improve it.

There's no specs per say, I just made it using stuff I had in the garage.

I was lucky enough to be young and financially retarded enough to buy one!

That's really impressive, I know some guys who tried to lift an E70 but just gave up because they couldn't figure it out.

it's easy to make the lift kit, not difficult at all, the rear is tricky, but I worked that out, problem is depending on the year you can't really put big tires on it because of the wheel speed sensors for the x drive.

yes and no, I'm getting ready to rebuild/restore it, so i'm going to be a financial retard again!

it was this, every time you got in the car, it's such a forgiving car for a novice, but such a rewarding car for a pro. the feel of it is almost telepathic, I remember thinking about flicking it sideways around a corner once, and it happened. it's that good and all the praise heaped on it is well deserved.

thanks! one day, i mean, hell, it's only time and money! (you never have both together!) if you're in new jersey once it's done, your more than welcome to come for a ride, although i'm sure tom mcpartland has called dibs a thousand times in his mind!

We need more than this. We being 6-spd manual E83 x3 3.0 owners with A/Ts already proven over 10k+ miles. Seriously. And yes on trails they're awesome. My plan is when it's worth little enough start setting up for a 3.5td swap, simultaneously figuring out lift... But would greatly appreciate more detail (doesn't get much more jalop than 4wheeling a supposed grocery hauler!).

you're asking for the recipe to my secret sauce!!!!! honestly, it's not difficult, just tricky for the rear, I played around with a a lot of setups before i settled on the one i ended up making for it. If you're anywhere near new jersey I can help you put it together.

OK, fair enough. If you're in business making these I may just be a customer sometime down the line. Alternatively if you do this for fun, well, I'd be visiting in about 2 yrs when my kid is grown enough to climb around under cars with me - if I didn't live in Texas.

Honestly experimenting and head-scratching and figuring is part of the fun for me too, so kudos for that, but I'm trying to limit my garage time to a little more straightforward stuff til my little one can join in. Until then it's legos - so hey, can't complain too much. Something like this is super-cool but may not even get many bites on bimmerfest or wherever because most people think they're X3's pretty great where it's at for their purposes... Hey, we can't all be car nerds.

If you do have a build thread or would be willing to share a few details to get me started, see if you can figure out how to send a private message (cuz I couldn't)...
