oh damn... I was gonna complain about shifting to 3rd in the GLI to get to 60...
It drops my 0-60 time from the predicted 5.8 seconds to about 6.5 :P

For a '96, it was 9 seconds. Max torque came in 200 RPM lower on '95+ models though, not that it was have THAT much effect.

That's crazy. Although to be fair I have a manual box (assume yours is auto?) and a fair bit less weight. I'd guess my car has a bit less wear on it too (just about to pass 70k miles).

possibly, but when you have a 0-60 time of half of his, and have driven cars that have 0-60 times that are just over a third of his (rx8) you lose touch for slow cars

I've driven cars significantly slower than his and managed. You need to be pretty good at working the gearbox and keeping momentum in the cars with >16 second times though.

That's about what my Beretta did. But it was hard to judge because the transmission was slipping and wouldn't shift out of first unless you let off the gas for a second.

It's likely the gearbox then if it has shifting issues. I'd guess a fluid flush and filter and you'd get back up to 11 second ish times. That's if there isnt something more serious broken.

dude. I learned to drive in a 1991 VW golf Diesel non turbo. it TOPPED OUT at 65 mph. when it was new, it had 55hp. now, with 300000km's on the clock, that's down to like 40hp. it struggles on light uphills in 2nd gear (like, you gotta go WOT to keep it moving.)
I've driven slow cars, really slow cars, but I love my fast ones

Pretty good, only small stuff so far. Fixed a leak in the air intake box and I've started priming the rust spots on the car ready for paint. Tiny stone chips and a small section where the trunk handle rubbed on the paint... Yes I have a little OCD.

Should be getting my OEM roof rails and maybe some wider wheels down the line.
