Actually, I'll apologize for the 9,000 people who saw it and promise to remove it. For the record, I didn't even find this picture from the original source. Should we simply stop posting pictures that aren't our own if we don't find the photog info? He has every right to the citation, I know, but look at the context. It's sort of a tribute to his own damn car, gave his picture some recognition, and no one stands to profit from it, yet he acts like I sold the picture to various publications. I also decided to put it I something that took a long ass time to put together. I've been in a shitty mood this evening and this was just irritating, sorry for the venting.

Since none of us really make money here I don't think we really need to cite things. Unless it gets FP'd then it might need citation.

Apologize, give him a citation, and ask if he would like the picture removed.

However, remind him, as I do when people bitch about the quality of my writing when I've been FP'd, that the article was not originally intended as a front page publication or a Jalopnik article, but a not 100% public mini-blog post for personal purposes.

Citations aren't necessary on Oppo. If it gets promoted to the FP in my opinion then it's the Jalopnik editors job to figure out citations, Gawker Media is the one who will be making money off the page views, not you.

Google image search allows you to find free-to-use images for your articles that are verified.

Otherwise, whether or not you use it is totally up to you. It's an honor system, especially if you're getting it from a different source. Honestly, Photogs like this are probably so used to people using their images all over the place that they treat everyone the same.

To be honest, I'm not really on the photographer's side on this. It's sort of like fighting a war using sabers when your opponent has tanks. Sure, you can keep going about what you're doing, but you're fighting a losing battle from day 1. It's not fair but it's also reality.

Also, charge your damn phone.

I'm not taking sides here, as I made a satirical post about the situation and had people who disliked me try to have me banned. Anyways, it all started with the 2015 mustang/accord coupe reveal. A photographer took some pics, which were used by jalopnik, and gratuitously photoshopped them because they were mediocre at best. Victorious Secret fried this guy and dismissed his rebuttal. Hardibro came on Oppo and posted a piece about VS's dickishness and how j-nik unfollowed him, and a shitstorm ensued. It was living hell on here.

Photographers often spend a lot of time and money on their work. It's not hard to edit in a short "Photo credit: Jeff Swaim" at the end.

If he posted in a way that you can grab it, than he's the one at fault. If his personal pictures are so important to him, than he should protect them or watermark them.

The VS v Hardibro case was very different. That was a situation that involved a FP post written by one of the editors. VS replied the author responded, that author's response was shared to the FP by Hardibro as if it was a unique post, VS dismissed said response essentially dismissing Hardibro's post. You have 3 choices here, you can a) dismiss or ignore and that is totally fine b) take down the pic or c) cite the picture. But you are under no real obligation to do b) or c)

Good point, I just reference that particular case about that for the fun of it. I'll probably just ignore it to be honest, although I was first going to cite it and then take it down. You see, things like this pass for excitement in my world.
