Why is it that modern Japanese cars beep every time you press the lock or unlock button on the key fob? I'm not talking after two presses when the horn goes off but every time you lock it it it makes like a microwave beep. Anyone know why? This irritates me for some reason.

I like it. It easily lets me know the remote actually sent the command, and I can check if the car is locked from inside my house by listening for the beep.

Plus, if the fob dies, there will be no beep!

I didn't know "only" Japanese cars had this feature though.

Most American cars don't and I'm not around enough Euros to know. I'm used to just hitting lock twice and knowing its locked and armed by the horn.

350z uses horn not beep. Also, you should be able to turn it off and go lights only, as I've done for the last several years. Usually by holding either the unlock or lock button on the fob for like five seconds.

Check the owner's manual, there should be a way to turn that off. I was able to shut it off in my Outback
