Not that the Lexus LF-A is a tragic car or anything, but this motor should make an appearance in something else.

Easy:

Convert to RWD and add a six speed T56 and BOOM: brown V10 Manual (ex-diesel) wagon!

So, what you're saying is...LF-A powered Tundra? Because that's what I'm thinking.

Give the Ram SRT-10 a run for it's money.

A Massive, 400HP DOHC V8 build as a homologation engine? Able to handle up to 650 or even 700HP stock, naturally aspirated? Known for hitting 4 digits under boost on a stock block? 6000RPM stock, but 7500rpm in race trim? Holy shit this engine is perfect .

Kinja'd!!!

So what do they stick it in? A GT-R? Some Awesome sedan or drift car? A Luxury coupe?

Kinja'd!!!

Wait... what? No, wait. That can't be right. It must be in something nice in the Infiniti line!

Kinja'd!!!

WAT. No. Oh god no. Please, anything. What else did they put it in?!

Kinja'd!!!

*weeps inside as my soul dies*

I'm not kidding. The Pathfinder was the "sportiest" car that got this engine. No sedans or coupes, just big, heavy, SUVs and Vans.

Moreso the P2 engine had to be production based, so Nissan looked at their lineup and went "Hmm... I think we can make best engine from the truck engine"

First thing that came to my mind. Of course sleepers are awesome but soooo much more could have been done with this engine.

Other way around. The VK is an evolution of the VH design, which was created for use in Super GT (GT500) racing. They expanded to V8 Supercars and GT1 later, along with a few Infiniti sedans and trucks.

Way ahead of its time, doomed by the cost and relative normalcy of the car it was stuffed in. Succeeded spiritually by the Northstar, which was never really anything amazing. I really want to see this thing reborn into a new Corvette or a mid-engined GM supercar that won't be called Corvette because fuck that.

I almost bought one but the rest of the car was crap. Or maybe it's just how good the engine is makes all the other parts look like garbage.

Kinja'd!!! GhostZ > Axel-Ripper
08/30/2014 at 23:30

Kinja'd!!!0

To further drive the point home, it weighs a few hundred lbs more than a chevy big block, has massive 6-bolt mains, and is way too heavy and inefficient for a 300-400HP truck engine, because it's lugging around enough metal to handle three times its output.

Similar story with the Toyota 1UZFE engine. Nice big V8 they decided to put into the SUVs. Luckily a lot of people seem to like to swap them into 240s.

There is no way that would work. You need torque to move a truck.

That was the direct-injection version VK56VD. Same block, different headers, cam, intake, etc. It is a better engine but doesn't have the same tragic car/ awesome engine ratio as the standard VK56DE.

This went into the Trailblazer:

There was even a twin turbo concept, that never went into production.

This is a built one made for a turbo application. That sound.

Here's a turbo one:

Here is another turbo.

I think you could loom at this another way. Its truck engine. Once these things are in the junk yard, go down there and pull one. A few hundred bucks later, you have that beaut, and the junkyard thinks its just another truck engine.

The 1UZ. So much torque and a decent amount of power, good aftermarket and insane reliability.

Then they put it in cars the size of boats and never gave it a manual from the factory

yeah... but to run it in say...a z you'd add a bunch of weight. and unless you run full dry carbon like Forsberg it's just too much. Or you could just you know...have a faster car, like that'd ever fly at Nissan. 370z Hellcat? Skyline Hellcat?

The people who swap these into Zs (it's very common in the professional drift world) aren't looking to use it stock, they are making 800+ HP out of it. You can't do that reliably on a VQ engine.

Kinja'd!!! Axel-Ripper > The Transporter
08/31/2014 at 12:47

Well at the same time, it IS a FWD small block. Should make for some easy Fiero swaps.

Should? Try does!

Kinja'd!!!

There are whole kits you can get specifically to swap an LS4 into a Fiero. The only purpose that I can find for a V8 Monte Carlo is as a rolling crate for a future Fiero donor engine.

Check out this V12. You probably don't recognize it. That's because it's made by Toyota .

This is the 1GZ-FE - a 5.0L V12 that is made in both CNG and gas versions. The CNG version makes 250hp & 310 lb/ft. of torque, while the gas version hits 310hp and 340lb/ft. of torque. Top Secret stuck one in a Supra and got 950hp out of it. In stock form it runs dual ECU's - one for each bank. If there's a malfunction, it can shut down one bank of cylinders and keep running.

What's it put in? Only two vehicles:

Kinja'd!!!

The 4,390lb. second generation Toyota Century, coupled to a 4-speed ('97-'04) or 6-speed ('05-present) automatic. It's the only Japanese production RWD car with a V12. It retails for around $109,968 USD.

The other car, then?

Kinja'd!!!

The 6,440 lb. Toyota Century Royal, the official state car for the Emperor of Japan. Only 4 have ever been made - each one costing over $500,000 USD - and all with the 6-speed automatic.

Kinja'd!!! GhostZ > claramag, Mustaco Master
08/31/2014 at 17:21

Kinja'd!!!1

Yes. Here's a run down:

VH45DE: Original iron-block V8. Smaller, heavy, revs like a monster. Found in all sorts of trucks and cars.

VK45DE: Larger alloy-block version. Incredibly strong but much heavier.

VK50VE: Bored and stroked version with variable valve timing.

VK56DE: Even further bored and stroked version without variable valve timing.

VK56VD: Variable Valve timing and direct injected version of the VK56DE, highest performing engine.

VH is cheaper than the VK, but the VH will conk out at 800HP when the VK will still go strong up to around 1100. VH also gets worse gas milage, I believe, in stock form.

Kinja'd!!! claramag, Mustaco Master > GhostZ
08/31/2014 at 18:34

Kinja'd!!!0

is fuel economy a huge issue when cranking out 800-1100 HP? Seems like at those power levels, unless you're running in an high powered endurance, you'd've just come to terms with the black hole style fuel consumption

Kinja'd!!! GhostZ > claramag, Mustaco Master
08/31/2014 at 18:38

Kinja'd!!!1

Well, compared to an LS engine at comparable levels (which can still manage double digits at around 900HP) it takes a lot of energy to move those four cams. Stock, they made around 20mpg. Modified it quickly drops.
