So my sister got this 2011 Forester a bit more than 3 years ago, cause she moved to Mississippi for a couple years. Some local teenagers found out she's not white so they did this to her car. [see pics]. For reasons unknown, she never got it fixed and now since lease ends next month, my dad told her to go get it fixed. He gave her the # for a car repair guy of a family friend. She got an estimate today. This is not $2,500 worth of damage + labor. And she didn't even tell them about the fender, just the door and tail lamp.

Quick look on eBay motors shows used 2009-13 lamps for $100 or so.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that Subarus come with marathon stickers from the factory.

The last time I had body work done was 2004. I had a 1996 Ford Bronco XLT in black. It needed a replacement taillight and rear bumper, and the left rear quarter panel sanded and repainted (not even any dents removed). It came out to $1400.

You aren't paying for parts; you're paying for labor (as I'm sure you are aware). That being said; if that's the estimate a family friend gave you, then I'd hate to see what your enemies would charge you. Damn.

Yeah, fuck that. At least the tail lamp is something I could do, or at least have my Dad do if I'm not going to be home (leaving next week for school).

I can believe it, my 98 camaro got backed into and did 2300 in damage.

Yeah I'm sure the tail lamp would be very doable and definitely get another quote. Good luck and thanks for another reminder of why the south can be an awful place.

This was 1500 dollars worth of damage :(

i think about 200 dollars in parts, the rest in labor/paint. Few things worse than having your car vandalized/hit when parked.

If i remember correctly, paint is the really big one. New bumpers don't come painted and car paint is expensive.

Thankfully, it was only about 300 dollars out of pocket if I remember correctly (insurance gave me a big break as my car was hit when it was legally parked on the street)

I suspect much of the estimate for the Forrester has to do with repainting those panels after banging the dents out.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just replace the panel?
