Is it just me, or is the long-hood coming back? Cab-forward design seems to be receding.

For awhile, it seemed like they tried hard to match the angle of the hood and windshield, but I'm noticing longer, flatter hoods. I'm okay with this, in fact I prefer it.

One of those is front engined and RWD. The others are only pretending to be.

I'm gonna go with a combo of improved aerodynamics, and pedestrian crash regs.

Regardless of drivetrain layout, I like the look. Just kinda surprised to see it, when there seemed to be so much emphasis in the opposite direction thru the early 2000's.

I see your point, but I guess I was referring to more mainstream models.

I specifically didn't reference the Dodge Charger, since it has had a long, flat hood since its re-birth, but I imagine that helped nudge the current trend.

Yeah, just kidding. I think i saw too many mitsuokas today so my brain is kinda went wonky today.

I think it's started by the Model S. I'm going to miss my boxy saloon..

IMHO You are looking at the wrong cars, the cab forward design is still prevalent in small cars, take a look at the Honda Fit, Civic, Mazda 2 and 3. Chevy Sonic .. you get the idea..

Right, good point. I guess i'm seeing it as more of a trend in the mid-sized to large sedans.

Ugh my pet peeve is hoods that have this profile:

Kinja'd!!!

Like that mazda and the BMW Z4. Makes the car look waaaaay too phallic.

I see what you're saying. Agreed, it does have a phallic quality. The Mustang mitigates that ONLY by having the section aft of the wheel well flatter than an aircraft carrier.

Yeah, the Mustang does a good job of avoiding that effect. Of the cars you posted pictures of, the Tesla has by far the most appealing hood line for me. Flat like the Mustang is acceptable, but gracefully sloping down just looks more aerodynamic and smooth to me.
