How would one go about importing seats and such from Japan? Through browsing Goo-Net, I discovered that my 4Runner in JDM spec was available with Recaro seats or microfiber like seats. Kind of wondering how difficult it would be, if anybody on here has experience on that. Here is a JDM Hilux Surf for your time.

Dunno how you'd go with postage, but I've got a set I'm my patrol. "Fishnet" Recaros, and damn they are comfy. There's a rubber pad that holds your weight on the base of the seat and they're good at breaking making you sit on the floor, so see if you can get pictures of the underside of the base before you fork out the money. The original seats in my old hilux felt like a bus stop.

Shipping is pricey for heavy stuff like seats. Look up Tetsuya Garage. Rod lives in Japan and handles stuff like that. He's well spoken of on ClubRoadster.net

The seats in my 4Runner are comfortable, but they are kind of wearing out. Along with that, through years of abuse as a first car and the vehicle that had to pull dumb friends out, the interior itself is kind of falling apart. So eventually, I would like to do a complete swap. I know you can get a half-cut and I already plan on swapping to a 1KZ-TE eventually, so I wonder if the seats could be shipped with that?

Thanks, I already plan on eventually getting a half-cut with a 1KZ-TE sometime in the future, so I probably will be able to do it that way. But if I were to get them before that, that is probably how I would do it.

The half cuts I've had experience with have been pretty much radiator to steering wheel, with a little floor pan, you may get lucky but I'd say they'd pull the seats before it was cut to sell on. 1kz are good motors, if I didn't want coils I would have gone for a surf with one of them in it. I've been thinking ify getting a town car, and a surf crossed my mind. Is your 4runner a V6 at the moment? Did you get diesels over there? Presuming you're in or around the states..

Too bad you didn't post this last week. The movers came and picked up my stuff, I could have snagged some seats for you. There is (was) a 3rd gen Surf in the junkyyard here too with the stock recaros. I was going to get them for myself but the color didn't match my stateside 3rd gen plus they're a bit too snug (made for japanese people).

If had the money right now I would have, but this if for future plans. But I didn't think about the snugness. Are they really any more snug than the non JDM models, because my current seats hug me pretty tight?

They're noticeably snugger than stock 3rd gen cloth seats and I'm 6'1" 190lbs. The japanese make super small seats. I tried to sit in a Civic/Integra Type-R that had stock recaros and I couldn't even sit down in them due to having white guy sized hips. The stock R32/33 GTR seats were snug too but mostly in the upper back lat area.
Putting aftermarket Recaros in off-road vehicles is pretty popular in Japan, not sure why it hasn't caught on in America. If I could get these in Brown/Tan I'd give them a shot. For the price I'm not expecting much though. http://tinyurl.com/pqob55a

Eh, 2nd gen seats over here are a lot smaller than 3rd gen seats.

I haven't sat in 2nd gen seats since high school which was decades and 40lb ago.

If I wasn't used to it, I probably would think I couldn't fit at my hefty 250, but I'm used to it and I actually think it's comfortable. It holds me in place while everything else shakes.
