Kinja'd!!!

10 minutes after I picked up my E36, I was learning how to drive a stick and then this happened:

Kinja'd!!!

The upper radiator inlet had sheared off. Fortunately, replacing it was easy. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that you have to burp the air out of the system, so it took a while to get the overheating issue sorted out. Then once I finally got that issue sorted, my cooling fan's clutch died. After I got that fixed, this happened:

Kinja'd!!!

It was after this happened a few times, I decided to get constant tension style clamps. Then my radiator developed a hairline fracture and was leaking, so I replaced it again. My water pump began to fail so I replaced that. My expansion tank wasn't sealing well, so I replaced it as well as cleaned out my coolant level sensor. I've also replaced top and bottom hoses, added the thermometer to actually determine the temperature of the coolant, and replaced the thermostat several times. I know the pain, Orlove, I know the pain.

Don't worry, it isn't just you, old BMW's have a habit of self-destructing their cooling systems. When I worked on them more frequently a few years ago I got into the habit of quoting all of the hoses, thermostat, and tank anytime a cooling system needed work. Otherwise more than half would come back within a couple weeks. Don't even getme started on their radiators and water cooled alternators.
