"JQJ213- Now With An Extra Cylinder!" (jqj213)

As many of you know, I have a huge obsession with older Volvos. And ever since I drove my first 240 on my first car search, I have been hooked and wanting one. Since then, I have looked at over 15 of them. The issue I found was pricing. No one knows what they are worth. but I found this on Craigslist and want your opinion.
This is actually a very interesting car. It first went up on Craigslist June 1st with an asking price of $1500. And I went to look at it. The car wasn't bad, but I didn't want to pay more than $1000. Seller told me no way they'd let it go for less than $1300.
Fast forward to mid August. The car is still on Craigslist. But now, the asking price is $600. Why? They got sideswiped! As you can see in the picture, it doesn't look like too bad of damage. They just dropped the price to $550 OBO the other night. I have a feeling $450 would get me this car. And when I saw it a few months back at full price, it did drive rather nicely.
There are some cons though. The AC doesn't blow cold (it is there and you can feel the fan blowing though, so it might not be too bad), the antennae is busted, it has the typical rear taillight issue, and something is messed up with the overdrive where it won't go away.
But, I can get it for most likely less than $500. And I've wanted a 240 for a long long time. I also know someone that can tow it home for me for $20, and I can fix it up before registering the car saving me some money. What do you think Oppo?
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (and yes, the seller does not know the difference between Sweden and Switzerland and are quite ambitious about this car).

Honestly I went on a 240 search earlier this year and the ones in my price range were 5 hours into the next county, buy it, if it's a dud I'll buy it :P

I've got no idea what the normal price for a 240 is where you live. BUT, if this is the car you'd like.. I'd say BUY BUY BUY :)

Where I am, they are normally $1500-2500. The first one I saw (almost my first car) was $1900. These prices fluctuate so much its rather crazy.
It is a car that Ive wanted forever now and I actually love this 80s-tastic paint on it!

Never knew the year mattered all that much! When I drove it in June it felt really solid! Im going tomorrow to look at it again. The damage doesn't look too serious and at the end of the day, its a $500 beater.
But you know me enough to see how I obsess over these older Volvos....

Damn, I did not see the huge damage on the left side of it, offer him/her 450 bucks in cash and this beast is yours :)

That was exactly my thinking! Its funny too, they could've had $1000. This is what happens when you hold onto a car for like three months; a lot of risk. And they got bit in the ass by it.
I'm going to look at it tomorrow and will take a ton of pics of it. I will then come back to Oppo for more opinions before I do something.

yeah early 90's they came out with the Rex Regina on some 240s, 7xx and 940s. Still a decent system, but parts are more money and more complex (see ignition coil, if it is a canister it is still bosch, if not it is a REX). Early 80s, 81-83 suffered from electrical woes more so than other years
