I'm dropping off my 2014 Elantra (only 5,000 miles) tomorrow to pick up a loaner while they wait for a transmission to come in. After taking it to one dealer, who ruined a new Elantra (They let it roll down a very steep hill about 20 times going forwards while in reverse trying to prove that my issues were normal.) A service tech at another Hyundai dealer agreed that it is shot and needs immediate replacement. Basically, while backing up a slight incline, the whole car starts grinding, sputtering, and shaking. It also slips while driving, and occasionally makes a burning smell while shifting.
On a side note, I checked the build date on my car and it was 1/2/14. I wonder if the workers in Alabama were hungover when they built my car.

Don't tell me this! I am trying to get my sister and wife into a 2011+ Elantra. I like the cars and think they are the best compact around. Wife is lemon lawing her 2012 focus because of the crappy dct it has. Hope your problem is more isolated than fords dct problems are.

If it makes you feel better, the lead mechanic who has 30+ years of experience said that he has never seen this specific issue on an elantra. I must have gotten a bad one, and hope to lemon law it.

That's good. Compare that to the long time ford transmission tech who quit because of these problems.

I was recently introduced to a 120k mile 2012 Elantra, believe it or not. Guy lives in Cali and drove it to work which was a long ass one everyday, and it looked brand spanking new, he said he had no trouble with it.
