I thought we liked cars that we actually liked and only cared about what a car did for us, but so many people on this poll are choosing a 1M over a Z06 and citing the investment in the rarity as their main reason. By the time I'm done with either they're not going to be worth anything because I would drive them ragged.

How many people have even driven the 1M?
I haven't. But I also don't automatically praise it because rare.
Motor Trend hated it:

as much as I'd love to just buy cars and hoon them to death, I'm not a rich man. I like both of those cars A LOT and it's a tough decision, but I'll go with the 1M just because of me being able to sell it for more when I'm done with it so I can go buy another awesome car, like a z06!

BMW deserves a middle finger up the arsehole for limiting production on this thing.

You think it will go up much more?
It's already very expensive for what it is

I don't know how I would feel about it one way or the other as I haven't driven it but it would probably be my favorite modern BMW being the lightest new BMW you could get now replaced by the 2 series. That being said my problem isn't with peoples opinion of liking one more than the other. It's that we are answering a fantasy poll with no money to be concerned over with the reasoning that one is worth more than the other. If you would rather have a straight six fine, but don't tell me it's so you can sell it later because you're going to baby it. Who wants to fantasize about taking care of a car, well besides Larry Kosilla?

This is a fantasy. It's not going to actually happen. Why are you worried about money?

Besides the badging what makes this so much more special than a 135i? I know you're going to tell me this or that little tweak but why not just fix up a 135i.

I would need to drive it to know for sure. It being lighter doesn't mean much to me as it's not crazy light. It's still a bimmer, which means it's still heavy. BMWs have never been about light weight. Their best cars are the ones that "feel" lighter than they are.
The E46 M3 is an Oppo fav and it's not light. But it doesn't feel as heavy as it is when you drive it. IMO the chassis setup matters more than the weight when it comes to BMWs.

Exactly, it's not even Hypercar comparisons where you could buy a ton of cars if you sold one. You could buy a new Passat with some options if you sold your 1m. Done. Living the dream man.

I think pristine Valencia orange examples will appreciate steadily, but overall I don't think they'll see a big increase in value. I do believe that they will maintain value/depreciate really slowly, so if I were to buy one and drive it for a year adding 10k to it i would be able to sell it for only a marginal loss.

I am dissapoint
You could get an E92 M3 with the carbon fiber roof and Manuél for way cheaper!
Get the N/A V8, not the turbo charged I6. Turbos are for weenies!

Corvettes are the seedy Florida strip club of the sports car world. Fast, fun and dirty. You know what it is going in, but you don't care.
That said, I'd rather own the 1M because it's plenty fun, has an acceptable interior and is a rare bird.

Nobody at the track is going to turn their nose up at a C6 Z06 unless they are the snobbiest of snobby assholes.

I think some time in the 1980s, when securities-based personal retirement accounts started to become common.
Wait, that wasn't the point of the question was it?

Yeah, plenty of those guys at track days too, but fuck them. Vettes are usually some of the fastest street cars out there for sure, but I wouldn't track either of these cars but once or twice. I'll beat on the Miata at the track. If I had to track these regularly, I'd go with the z06 because lol BMW maintenance. I approached this with the attitude of which one I'd dd.

Yeah I thought it'd be split between people who like refined performance vs raw performance. Turns out it's between people who love fun and people who managing finances in their dreams.

Exactly if everyone was just being snobs and saying they prefer roundels to bowties it would be one thing. But instead it's well I need to figure out how this affects my 401k and then I know how I'll spend my pretend money.

I'm especially amused when I do one with supercars and people go "well, Id take this one because it's worth more and so I'd sell it and buy the car I want!". It's like, you've missed the whole point of the exercise, and now I can't help but conclude you're a pinhead. Also, I want you to know, here in secret at the bottom of the comments section, that I voted for the z06 twice ;)

Because I'd love having either car. Would you complain if someone gave you a z06 instead of a 1M or vice versa? The 1m being a better investment is just another pro for me.

I know, the 1M would just be my choice between the two!
If I wanted a turbo I'd save myself some money and just get a CPO 335is for $35k.

I wouldn't complain about either but I think all car decisions short of writing the check should be made with the feels. Sometimes even signing the check should be done because of how a car makes you feel and not what it's worth. Chris Harris agrees.

good point, I'll admit I have feels towards the bimmer because I've driven many M cars and I know how great they are, but I've yet to experience a Corvette besides riding in my cousins track prepped C6.
My next car purchase will be with my feels, I can guarantee that.

I got to drive an AA supercharged E36 M3 that was slightly stripped (no rear seats, gutted trunk, recaros) and BOY was it fun. 385whp in a light car is insane.
