Kinja'd!!!

Just tried durian fruit in pudding form at a restaurant here in Singapore. Like coffee and beef broth boiled together. Not good.

Durian might not be a good fruit, but it's not half bad as a short film.

Did it smell like elephant farts?

I can't wait to find durian fruit to try. I know it's like the definition of a love-it-or-hate-it food and it smells strongly/horribly (?) no matter what, but I still want to try it if I ever find one. Dragonfruit was my last fruit search and I accomplished that after a few years of passive searching. A little disappointed in the mild flavor, but still worth it just being so exotic (at least in the US).

I know a Vietnamese place in Atlanta that has it. The whole restaurant knows when someone orders it.

Man, I remember walking through the Chinatown market and just smelling it. Yuck.

Go to Fatty's in Chinatown if you wanna get the taste out of your mouth. Or Brewerkz in Clark Quay.

It absolutely stinks. But can taste surprisingly nice.

It's like smelly tofu - the stench is unbearable, but quite nice to eat.

I tried Durian gelato once, it was like they had used onions. Would not recommend.

Durian's have a miserable aroma. Never got close enough to eat one. My Malaysian wife saw your post and says DELISHUS!!!(yes, I know it is spelled delicious, but that's not what she said.) And she is planning to go out to the Chinese store to buy one this weekend. I have something to do this weekend. Anything.

I dig the flavor. The smell, not so much.

It's more like a after-a-few-tries-it-gets-delicious type of food. If you're going for durians, go for the ripe or over-ripened ones with custard-like flesh. It could taste weird initially, but give it a few tries and get used to the taste, once that happens, it magically becomes delicious.
