Heading to Denver for my birthday this week/weekend. Planning to do the drive to Mount Evans, the highest paved road in America.

Figured I would splurge and go full Oppo and rent a kick ass car for the day. Checked out the fleet Hertz had for their Dream Collection for Denver and it blew. Did some digging and found a place where I can rent a 911 for the day:

I have gone to the top of Mt. Evans 3 times in the past. Be warned, towards the top, "paved" is a term they use loosely. The road surface is uneven and cratered to a point you wouldn't believe. A Porsche 911 will scrape constantly. Meaning, you will likely damage it.

Go with something with boost if you can. As much as I love n/a, that engine will barely make 250 hp (if that) at that hight.

Go with the GTR.

Good to know. I think we may only go to Summit Lake and not to the very end. I could also rent a Cayenne, but I'd honestly rather stick with a convertible and just pull up short of the tip top. Would we be OK up to Summit Lake?

Based on how dodgy the roads get once you are a ways up into the altitude, I would say my balls will be more the deciding quotient than the HP! Hahaha.

Will have the wife in tow so racing seats are a no-go. The convertible is more important than pure performance or I'd probably go with the Stingray honestly. I'm more of a FR guy than and AWD guy.

I think so. Honestly there's a 50/50 shot of you being okay to the top, it all depends on how far they've gotten on road maintenance.

Either way, prepare yourself for some of the most beautiful scenery you're ever seen. I spent 8 years going to a summer camp 10k feet up Mt. Evans. You'll pass the enterance on your way up.

I am pretty excited about it honestly. This will be my first trip to Denver, first time driving a 911, and first time driving in the Rockies. My previous mountain driving has always been in TN/WV/NC. Which is great too, but very different.

If you can get up early, try to get up to the top of Evans to see the sunrise. You have to get up at like 4, but it's so worth it. It's incredible. But dress warmly, as it's cold up there, even in the summer.

Great idea. I'd say I'll try but it would be a total lie. I just don't set alarm clocks when on vacation. My brother lives up there so there may be a 2nd chance to give that a shot with just he and I in that Stingray.
