...tell this person she might be getting scammed. Here's the scenario: I have a friend who says she was offered a job managing the construction of a large motel 750 miles from home.

Facts: She has no experience in construction. Trades, labor or supervisory.

He has told her she gets a company truck along with other perks.

From what I have learned, mainly online, most jobs of this type require a bachelors degree in some construction related field. Some gain these positions after years of rising through the ranks, but not many.

Pretty sure she met this guy at a bar or at a party.

I hate to burst her bubble but she is getting ready to relocate 750 miles and has sold off a lot of stuff to make this trip. It just sounds like a scam to me and I don't know how to approach the subject with her without her taking offense. Anybody out there with first hand knowledge of what this position entails and do you think this sounds like a scam? Or good advice. Thanks and have a Shelby construction site limited edition.

You could say something like...you know "I had a friend who got a very similar offer, it turned out it was a big scam and he was out all kinds of money. I would really investigate that position before committing any time or money." That way you plant the seed but you are not telling her she is stupid.

Have you looked into the company?

Tell her to look it up on the internet or something, or somehow have her contact the company that is doing the construction.

I am going to try to get the company name and do a little investigation of my own.

Good point. I just learned of all this today in an email. I probably need to act fast but not hastily. Thanks for the advice.

First, buy a gun. Something a detective would have, like a .38 special. Next go through your contact book and call the guy who does your hacking/tech stuff. Have him tap the motel's computer systems. See what he can dig up. Most likely he'll find an encrypted email from the man who wants to hire your friend. The email will probably say something along the lines of "Jameson, you have 48 hours to find another woman that we can ship off overseas for the sex trade". Show your friend this email. She won't believe you so you'll have to tail her as she makes the trip. When she meets Jameson on the outskirts of the city, he'll try to kidnap her. That's when you burst onto the scene with your revolver, shoot the bad guys, and rescue your friend. She'll run into your arms crying, saying she should have trusted you all along. Inform local PD to clean up the mess as you carry your friend away in your arms. Most likely she'll fall in love at this point so you can go ahead and marry her and live happily ever after at least until the sequel where Jameson's employer will seek revenge by destroying everything you hold dear.
