Friend of a friend of mine is selling his factory turbocharged Mazdaspeed Miata. Thought I'd let Oppo know about it and see what they thought of not only the ad and the car, but the asking price as well. Who knows, maybe it'll find a new home in an Opponauts garage?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

For sale: 2004 Mazdaspeed MX-5 (Miata). 73,6xx miles. GT package (black leather w/ red stitching interior w/ black cloth convertible top). Limited edition factory turbocharged to 178 hp / 166 tq, 6 speed manual, limited slip diff, 17x7 alloy wheels with BFG Sport Comp 2 summer tires, Bilstein shocks, fog lights, Bose stereo with 6 CD changer and ipod/AUX inputs

Includes soft top cover, front license plate bracket, ash tray for cup holder, and factory wind blocker with Bose speakers that was removed to fit the rollbar, original owners manual and a few other quick guide booklets.

In excellent mechanical shape with 60k mile service (front crank seal, water pump, timing belt, brake fluid flush, differential and transmission fluid flush) completed by Panic Motorsports in April 2013. New OEM brake pads, NGK spark plugs, new wires in April 2014. Regular oil changes performed with Mobil 1 full synthetic (last oil change on 8/2/2014).

2004 OEM hardtop w/ defrost, tint and all latches and seals in great shape and Hard Dog Hardcore Hardtop rollbar w/ SFI padding and vinyl cover (this is true rollbar and not just a "style bar").

This car has been an absolute blast to own for almost 3 years now. It's all around solid and has done a few long 10+ hour road trips and some daily driving for a while to work and back. It is still completely stock under the hood and does not suffer from the bogging issue that happens with some of these cars. It's very clean and was purchased as a one owner car from Carmax in October 2011. The velocity red metallic paint gets compliments everywhere I take it.

All around this is a fantastic car that I hate to part with it, but it's no longer meeting all my needs in a car. I'm asking $12,500. If you would like the car without the hard top, I will take $1000 off of the price. I am not selling the hard top separately unless the car sells without it first. Get in touch and I'd be glad to show the car and discuss the price. I also now have a inspection report from McDaniels Mazda showing everything is in good condition.

*UPDATE* Price drop to $12,500, vinyl graphics have been removed and car has been freshly washed and waxed. As a clarification the title is clean but I am still making payments so it is held by my bank which should not hold up the sale in any way but I did want to be up front about the status.

MSM's are cool, but are completely let down by the transmission and final drive gearing. The turbo has a wider powerband than the NA motor, yet they put a SUPER SUPER close-ratio 6-speed in it, and a final drive that gear-limits the car to like 128mph. That's right, 6th gear bouncing off the limiter at 128, the car is physically incapable of going faster because of the gearing. The MSM should have a 5-speed and 3.9 or 3.7 rear and it would be perfect, but from the factory, Mazda really ruined it.

5 speeds are really better for boosting in general I hear. Maybe you can swap the gearbox from a non turbo?

Everything I hear about these cars are bad. Search for the car on the grassroots motorsports site to get the real downlow on them. Generally it's accepted that building a turbo miata is a far better idea than getting into the trainwreck that is this car.

I'm sure you could, and it would really make the car way better in my opinion.
