The epicenter of last night's 6.1 earthquake in Northern California is about 20 mike or so from Sonoma Raceway, location of today's penultimate round of the Verizon IndyCar Series. I mention this not because I'm concerned about something so low on the priority list compared to lives and property damage. I mention this because this gives this very topical news item a very Jalopnik angle. I wonder if the track took any damage like the surrounding communities and wineries have.

a good number of indycar folks have been on twitter with pics. Helio's room was a mess of broken glass.

I saw that. I haven't taken the time to figure out the mechanics of linking from Twitter to here on my iPad.

The F1 Extra show in NBCSN was talking to a reported out there who said the Penske team had to be evacuated from their hotel, but I haven't heard much about the track. I'd hope they'd do a thorough inspection before any racing can happen.

I still don't understand why people live in California. Between the drought and earthquakes it just doesn't make any sense to me. But I'm just an ignorant northeast guy who doesn't mind a little snow once in a while.

It was nuts. Can't comment on the track but I was in Davis (about 40 mineast of Napa) and it woke me up and shook the room pretty damn good for what felt like a few minutes. I know that some of the local highways were cracked and or damaged, including Hwy 37, which is what you take to get to the track...
