Go get this book and read it now. Entertaining, well written and technically interesting. I had a flight from Christchurch to Singapore and spent the entire time with this book. Good stuff.

Without being spoilery here we go: a Mars mission is forced to abort due to a storm that threatens their launch vehicle. In the rush to the ship one of the crew is injured and presumed dead. He is left behind and when he comes to he finds that he is the only person on the planet. He really wants to get home and he uses every bit of training he has to try and make it happen.

I thought this book was fantastic, but I feel like he left out one major aspect of it.

*SPOILERS*

Being alone for so long would have a heavy psychological impact, but it was never touched.

I disagree that it wasn't touched. He did the whole diary thing to deal with it then expressed excitement at being able to talk to anyone at one point.

I thought the psych eval was a cop out. I don't care who you are, that long alone that isolated is going to lead to more serious issues.

As a science fiction book, I felt like that was by far the biggest stretch. He did a great job making everything else as near future as possible.
