As much as I love the idea of more aggressive Alfas this makes me a bit sad as it seems we won't ever get an affordable Alfa. Where's our 1-series/ATS competitor?

A final decision on that has not yet been made.

Still, you can always go for a Mazda 3, from a distance, nobody will notice the difference.

Give it another 6 months and you will see Alfa is not going to produce anything, just like always... Here, look at this totally awesome concept that we are totally going to build. (some time later) Were not going to build that totally awesome concept, instead, we're going to build this totally awesome concept (rinse, lather, repeat)

Hm, since you suggested using the Mazda3 as a substitute, here's a quick and nasty 'chop:

The 6C front end from up there and the wheels from 159 Ti. Huh, eh? :)

No company is ever going to phase out FWT stuff. It's too space- and engergy-efficient.

While the 911 competitor is music to my ears, I can't help but think 'why not both'?

Because Mazda doesn't build cars in Italy, that's why.

Yeah I've heard that, although that sounds like union bollocks to me. I don't see how any marque that wants to have a volume global presence can restrict itself to one country of manufacture.

They even said that they won't initially go after Mercedes, BMW or Lexus numbers, if you add that to the fact that Fiat's Italian plants are badly underused, there is a lot of room to build enough to meet the targets of their 5 year plans. Even if demand for Alfa is bigger than expected, they can shift cheaper Fiats to factories like Poland, Serbia, Turkey and South America, keeping the higher priced cars, in the more expensive Italy.

Good point actually. I was just thinking about increased shipping costs, especially to the US, but I doubt they'd exceed the costs of letting a factory run idle.
