Just about had a head-on with another student at my school. I was heading down a very steep hill with cars parked on the uphill side. They do make the road somewhat narrower, but two vehicles can still pass each other fine. I should know, I drive down it every day. So this kid comes up the hill in his white Ford Expedition, hugging the curb on MY side of the road (the wrong side). I thought for sure, when he saw me coming, he'd get back on his side, or at least slow down. Nope. I stood on the brakes (ABS kicked in majorly) and held down the horn. This guy the proceeds to miss the front of my car by a very small margin, and returns to the wrong side of the road after he passes me. I think I also scared the crap out of some kid standing by the road. But it ain't him that needs new underwear right about now. At the end of last year, I had a similar incident with another student in a red Expedition of the same body style, only my mom was in the passenger seat. She flipped out a little.
People, especially new drivers: If it's too big for you to drive, don't drive it. Parents, you are equally guilty: many of you can't drive your own big SUVs, yet you put your kids in them because you think it's the only way too keep them safe from all those crazy clueless high schoolers in their big SUVs.

When I was in high school a kid in an Explorer almost t-boned me twice, two days in a row, same way and place each time. I actually laughed when I saw his car in a tree a few weeks later.

One of my friends, who is blind as a bat and probably shouldn't be driving, almost hit me twice in the same day, at the same location. I let it slide because he's cool (and a huge car guy!)

As long as you can maneuver it. My car is big, as far as sedans go, but I know where it will fit.

In high school, one of my friends t-boned a brand new special edition Merc SL with his 1977 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban in the school parking lot. Her car was totaled. His 'Burb's license plate was bent.
God we loved that Suburban and the 454 under the hood.

All of the money.
Insurance settled. No injuries, and the 16 year old cheerleader got another brand new SL.

Yep, I agree. My first personal rule of owning a car; know thy car. Know how long it takes to brake, how long it takes to accelerate, have a good idea/feeling of the length of the car, know the turning radius of the car, and most importantly, know what it's unable to do.
I drive a pt cruiser, and I know it like the back of my hand. I've become quite use to it so much that I can make split-second decision about if I can 'make it ' in my car or not.

I used to hate the parking lot at school. I remember just getting my Cadillac back after it spent months in the body shop being repaired after hitting a deer, only to come out after class to find a big crease in one of the rear doors. Before hitting the deer, I had already planned on going into the shop, because some other moron in the same lot had managed to crack one of the headlights.
Even further back in high school, I was sitting in the line of traffic in my old Volvo waiting to get out of the lot, when the girl in the Jeep in front of me inexplicably shifted into reverse and plowed straight back into my grille.
Seriously people, if you can't master parking lots and small side streets, you really should reconsider the whole "driving" idea.

Wow. I'm glad you're okay. I had a similar incident during grad school for my Masters. I drove the Mustang right off the road to get away from a guy (in a Navigator) in my lane.
