At least she doesn't have the helmet clipped to the rear of the bike while riding, those are the best. :P

Side note, not many girls can pull of the short hair look... she does it pretty well. (Insert one of the many automotive punned sexual innuendo jokes, flying around my head right now, here)

When I was growing up in Norfolk, VA, home of the largest naval base in the world, "Squid" was a derogatory term for any enlisted sailor. Granted, many of them rode crotch rockets because they were affordable and fast. And so many of them died in the process that the local trauma surgeons called them "donor cycles." Has "Squid" come to mean anybody who rides a bike like this with minimal to no safety gear? Or does it still carry its enlisted-navy connotations?

I have only heard it used for young, reckless superbike race-boys. Could be with gear or not. Only requirements are youth, fast bike, and YOLO.

Some say it's a compound word made up of "Squirrely" and "Kid."

My first adult visit to Norfolk in the early 90s, I couldn't help but notice how many tire and rim shops there were right off post. Is that still the case?

Shot from that trip because we can now post photos.

I think Norfolk will be great, once they finish it.

I left Norfolk for college in '86, and I don't remember the tire and rim shops because I wasn't looking for them. But that sounds right, along with lots of used car lots. But that's probably the same in any base town.

Finish it? How do you mean? The interstates in the area have been under construction since the Eisenhower administration. And the whole Tidewater area is growing like crazy, and has been for over 200 years. Except for the ridiculously slow speed limits, I miss Norfolk, particularly all the water.
