Kinja'd!!!

Your rich great uncle Leeland(far right) has passed and has left you, his only kin, his country home with a warehouse garage and a moderately sized road course mixed with a couple rally stages. He has paid a staff to maintain whatever fleet of cars you fill the garage with and they are skilled and equipped with all manners to fix/create whatever you want. Great uncle Leeland has left you five million dollars to fill the garage. What do you buy and/or build?

Short and sweet this is to celebrate the return of embedded images. Five million dollars, all the room you could need and no concerns for maintenance or parts cost. Go.

Here's mine:

House is already included! You must spend it all! No saving! Nice choices though. I never thought it would be hard to pick out five million dollars worth of cars. The hardest part is I want some racecars and those prices are a little harder to come by.

I have little to add here, but since there are courses, I'd like to reserve a portion for a large amount of identical track-suitable and rally-suitable cars. A smattering of low-powered Caterhams for instance. So I can race with friends.

FORD SVT RAPTORRRRRR

Ford Focus SE, the better looking Focus Hatch.

Stryker MGS, to drift and shoot, damnit!

THE JUUUUUUKE

The Nissan 370z (this one's a Nismo 2010, which looks cute :)

Dodge Magnum, the king of station wagons.

The Oshkosh HEMTT, 19.5 tons, 10 meters, 12.1 liters of 8x8 62MPH 4MPG awesome. For hauling all of these. 'Murica.

And, the dodge viper. Interesting fact, the Oshkosh HEMTT is more expensive, starting at 135k per unit as opposed to the Viper, with the SUPAFASHT edition being something like 123k.

Sadly, kinja and Windows RT hate each other, so I can't include a picture of the Toyota FJ Cruiser, for fear of kinja eating the entire post. So, just look up 'Green FJ Cruiser', you'll get the effect.

They are going to make the C7 Z06, but it isn't a Z06 . It's a big marketing scheme. In the past the Z06 has always been the purebred track focused lightweight raw car. In the past is has always been the next step from a regular C5 or C6. They chose to continue one of those paths. The C7 Z06 is the step up from the regular C7 but it is not a raw lightweight track focused monster. It is an optioned and kitted up car more like The C6 ZR1. I think they realized it's easier engineering and manufacturing to build a car like the ZR1 and sell that at a step up and that it is actually more work and possibly even more money to build a car like the last gen Z06. I mean look at the LS7 compared to the LT4. One is basically just a supercharger strapped to the base motor while the other is a crazy 427 smallblock. I think we will get a real Z06 from the C7 but I don't think they will call it the Z06 and I don't think it will be the middle child. It will probably be the top end Corvette this time around and cost the most.

Not so much that I didn't like it as I didn't think it was going to be as interesting as it got from the first two cars.

Well, I'd say that my taste in cars is interesting. Also, if I ever won the lottery, I'd try to contact Oshkosh (the company) to buy an HEMTT. Seriously, that would be the first thing I would try to add to my garage (actually, who am I kidding, that thing's 33 feet long! you'd need a small airplane hangar to house that beast!), followed by the Stryker, to catch anybody who tried to jack that thing. I mean, 135k of truck is a serious asset! It's not like he's going anywhere, what with the noise of the thing, and the fact that it's NINETEEN AND A HALF TONS OF TRUCK. Acceleration? Nonexistent. But, on the flip side, if you get it going, there's no stopping that.

Not to be that guy.... but, can you show me an F40 or any 250 that sold at those prices? If I could have found one of those 250s that sold around that I would have added that to my list. Also you reminded me I forgot to add a Lancia Rally car to my racecar list. That will have to go on my morning update list.

Now that craigslist is back I looked at your E Type. Are you familiar with the 2+2 bodystyle E Type. From some angles it can actually look attractive but from some others it can be downright ugly. This owner knew what angle to take the pictures from.

This, plus $1,000,000 in mods. That's right. $1,000,000. It would have the following:

1. Entirely recast Carbon Fiber Body

2. Original low-miles chassis completely reinforced from the ground up with a rollcase

3. Professionally built Twin Turbo Cosworth DFV (or DFR) F1 V8 Engine to the tune of 900+ HP and 12000rpm, twin intercoolers, and roughly 500 ft/lbs torque

4. G-nose redesign and extensive windtunnel testing to improve downforce, and active aero spoilers and underbody panels

5. Custom pushrod suspension, 6-piston racing vented calipers

6. Stripped interior featuring a number of electronic gadgets ranging from radar detectors to hydraulic controllers for the active aero

7. Electronically adjustable rear differential with control switch in the cabin

8. 80's F1 transmission sourced from the same place as the DFV, geared for up to 220-240mph. And a magnesium gated shifter.

Running total: $1,000,000

Kinja'd!!!

A fleet of 5 Tesla Model S's to commute and carry other people inside, with 3 standing by at full charge at all times. Alternatively, I'd keep one in Boston, one in Chicago, one in LA, one in D.C., and one in NY, always at the ready to pick me up from an airport.

Running total: 1,320,000

Kinja'd!!!

1970 Dodge Challenger, outfitted with a 426 hemi from a 70s NASCAR, with a 4-speed pistol grip shifter, and a blower, designed for drag racing. About ~1700HP and with proportional modifications. Probably comes in around $400,000 for a complete work.

Running total: 1,720,000

Kinja'd!!!

One of these. I have no idea what it would cost, but I'm going to throw a million at it.

Running total: $2,720,000

Kinja'd!!!

A MiG-21

For... uh... going to business meetings. Very quickly. They can be had for around $800,000, let's round up to $1,000,000 for maintenence and fuel.

$3,720,000

Kinja'd!!!

About 5 of these (CJ-5 Jeeps) for winter and offroad use, all with a Ford 351 swap, at various power levels, plus various tires and suspension modifications, totalling about $30,000 per vehicle.

Running total: $3,870,000

Kinja'd!!!

1967-1969 F1 car. Preferably one that was a test model and didn't race, so that it could be refitted and used for track days without ruining its history. $200,000 for something with no races/wins.

Running total: $4,070,000

Kinja'd!!!

The rest would be spend on a Nissan R88CP Group C racecar, specifically, this one which is for sale without a price:

Are you seriously asking the guy who just said he would buy, and drive/fly regularly, a Mig-21, top fuel dragster, and Group C car, when he sleeps?

I never sleep, I merely subsist off of pure adrenaline.

(in actuality, I really sleep very little and never regularly, though I post less during the daytime while I'm working)

last I looked, $600k can get a higher mileage F40...which is fine because I'll be driving the thing anyway. Not sure about 288 GTO's...it's probably a pipe dream.

The 288 GTO is not in doubt. It's this one.

I know the F40 from that show sold for around 600k but I figured that was because it was rebuilt. I couldn't find any 250's anywhere near this price though.
