Well this morning I got onto the 3 lane road that should be an actual highway and but has a speed limit of 40 km/h (King Edward Ave in Ottawa)

and lo and behold I got behind one of these. I have an SR20 but kinja being kinja I couldn't upload it.

Anyways it's a Mazda 323C. I have only ever seen one once or twice. They only made these from 94-97.

Funky looking car, was it a Canada thing?

As per wikipedia "The Familia Neo started production for the Japanese domestic market in 1994, and was also sold as the 323C in Europe and the 323 Neo in Canada."

I'll tell you though jkm7680, I've lived in Canada now over 25 years and they're pretty rare, I have only seen one or two prior to this one.

These were quite plentiful in Europe. The same goes for the 5 door hatch (323f) of that generation and the previous generation (with pop up headlights!). It think both were more common than the sedan.

Because of the erm... quirky styling, they also sold this 323 Compact in Europe at the same time. For the more conservative crowd, I guess.

Yeah. It's just not that common over here in North America. It's a unicorn to me/us.

Thanks for the info. I like the styling but it obviously wasn't a big seller here in Canada.
