I suggest doing timing chain, guides, tensioners. They're pretty common on early AJ's.

Most everyone does it this way now, belly pans are quite helpful. It usually doesn't cause issues having things down there.

Understandable. You would hate to have to take it all back apart though. I think the timing parts were updated during late production year of 99, so MY 00 engine or newer should be ok. I think.

Agreed. Check to make sure the early ones (made of plastic) are replaced by the metal ones from later 4.2 cars.
