Personally I'm partial to the 318is with it's high revving four and timing chain instead of belt. You know what they say, slow car fast>fast car slow. What would your ideal e30 look like Oppo?

Rusto had a 318is. He always tells me it was fun, but way too slow.
325is Coupe Manuél, duh.

Stock. Or damn near. Too many E30s are being subjected to modifications taking them beyond what they were designed to be. Don't mean to sound like an Old Guy, but one day we're going to run out of nice, clean E30s.
Anyway, I've owned just about every style of E30 except the M3 and a Touring - 325e, 325i, Euro 323i Baur, 325iC, 318is. I love the M42 in the super-light 1991 318is chassis. It was way too much fun. I like the cruiser feel of the 325iC with a 5-speed, but honestly the automatics aren't that bad. There's something wholesome about a 325e; they're just nice cars to drive, good for commuting and around-town work. My 1987 Dinan 325is did everything well, from commuting to backroads to driver's schools. I miss that car sometimes.
I know it's sacrilege, but I've never been a fan of the E30 M3. I get the car, I get the pedigree, I completely get it on the racetrack. I understand them, but I don't want one, and didn't even when a nice drive was a $7-8k car.
A Touring would be fun, but one would have to fall into my lap. I'm not so into it I would go through the effort to bring one into the country. Neat cars, but...
I will always love E30s. The only one I'm not a fan of is the M10-powered 318i.

It's a shame we can't embed images because this is the ideal kind of post for it. As for the car the wheels are a tad big for my taste but otherwise nice.

325i two-door. Silver and very clean, snowflake alloys. Oh, and ITBs.
Actually, what I'd really want is whatever I could sell for the highest amount.
That way I could sell it, buy an early Biturbo and swap in the 2.8l injected engine and LSD from a 228/430/222.

As long as it's a 318is/320i/323i/325i you're good to go, still can't get enough of the sound of the M20 personally. Max 15" rims. No stance. M-tech-kit is allowed. And the 'French' yellow lenses for the head-lights. Of course , these are obligatory.
