I've only posted a handful of comments on the FP, yet I'm followed by Jalopnik and everything.

It's ok. I'm grey too. The last time we had the grey zone I never made it out...even after they FP'd something I wrote....
It sucks, because in sure it keeps people from commenting, but at least it's something.

Also, the red text yelling at you is very depressing to me...

Yay! So glad to see them!
That Alfa is beautiful and has a good ad behind it!
With that Lotus: I will NEVER understand how someone can sell a rather rare and unique car on Craigslist and only use two sentences that could describe ANYTHING.
That BMW is very nice and I really never see em with a manual but I do not like the lowered look and the rims.
As for the Forester, I've always had a soft spot for them but that price seems too high!

Man, have you looked at a lot of used Subarus lately? Apparently, all Subaru badges have spontaneously turned to solid platinum over the past couple of years. They are getting even worse than Honda/Toyota in terms of badge value.
I saw a 1st-gen Forester for sale lately. Manual tranny, steel wheels, bad paint, no service history, and 220K miles. Sticker in the window read $8000!

i was really shocked when I was trying to find one as a first car last October. Any Forester was fetching over $8500 that was decent. Not one had under 120,000 miles. I was shocked. I never knew they were like that!

Subaru is notorious for having never over-produced their cars like most other car companies. Other car-makers like GM or Chrysler will make way more cars than they can sell and just dump the extras into fleets. Subaru has never done this which has made their cars more valuable on the second-hand market.
That's the sensible reasoning behind the high prices, but that is not really enough to justify how crazy-high they've gotten. The rest of it is down to fanatical brand loyalty and a frankly undeserved reputation for reliability. They are fine cars, but they are no more bulletproof than other vehicles from a variety of brands. Subaru has cultivated a sterling brand image which is great for them, but is troublesome for buyers in the used market.
I recently helped a friend find a decent, cheap car to replace his horrifically ruined beater. He wanted a Honda or a Subaru, but examples of those cars in his budget are all in terrible condition.
The trick is to find something you want that has no brand recognition in its respective segment, yet is still a decent car. He really wanted an all-wheel-drive hatchback with a manual tranny, hence the desire for a Subaru. However, we ended up finding a Suzuki SX4 instead. It was in beautiful condition, low miles, perfect service history, and it cost the same as an Impreza that already had two wheels in the crusher.
Most people blindly buy cars by brand and that just makes the market funny. The same thing happened with my brother. He wanted a sports car with a biggish naturally aspirated engine and manual tranny. Everyone told him "V6 Mustang!", but when he test-drove a couple of them he found that they were overpriced and drove like shit. He wound up with a Genesis Coupe V6 instead. Nicer car, nicer interior, nicer engine, nicer price. Hyundai is a strong badge in the economy car segment, but it is a shit badge on a sports car.
That Hyundai was a total cream-puff. One adult owner, under 30K miles, everything was perfect, and yet it still sat on the dealer's lot for more than 6 months. We practically brought the dealer to tears when we beat the shit out of him on the price and then still walked out anyway. He was overjoyed when we returned a couple of weeks later. After sealing the deal he complained: "That damn thing would be worth $10K more if it had a Toyota badge."
He wasn't wrong.
