Sad news for all us old punks, skateboarders, and counterculture kids: Jay Adams, one of the original Z-Boys and essential pioneer of modern skateboarding, died of a heart attack yesterday in Mexico.

Like someone else said, may Heaven be full of empty pools with smooth breaks.

Depends on whether you also have the years of drug abuse he racked up. Dude did not live a very happy life. He deeply personified - all but invented - the badass fuck-you! attitude that is so much a standard part of the skate scene, but that had a deep dark side in his case.

More tragic was that lately he seemed to have outrun that darkness and gone clean. Life isn't fair that way, though.

Good thing I never did drugs. Beer and smokes is a different story but I quit smoking 2 years ago(smoked 3 packs a week for 2 years). and I only drink socially. But being quite overweight is still lowering my odds greatly.

We'll see how it goes I guess.

wow this guy rode a skateboard. So cool. Oh yeah he also went to prison for attacking a guy who walked by him just for being gay. All of Jay's friends and him stomped on the guy in front of his boyfriend until he died. But ya he really tore it up on his skateboard. Sick bro! Fuck you Jay Adams. And fuck your meth-head-ass -"finding jesus" -later-in-life bullshit. So typical.
