Kinja'd!!!

Just wanted to share something fun, as part of becoming a Virginia resident, decided to get something relevant to my PhD studies for my new car license plate.

Couldnt get MACH32.84 to fit so I rounded up to 33 to reflect the Earth's escape velocity (speed necessary to exit Earth's gravitational pull)

Will be starting my PhD in Earth Systems at George Mason Univ in a few weeks to study the Sun/Earth system.

:crawling back into my PhD student hole:

Makes an escape velocity joke on a Langley Research Center Plate

Langley Research Center studies atmospheric flight

I was going to say something mean, but I don't want to be mean. I don't get the joke, but just know that if you try to reach that speed in your car...as Patrick found out "Virginia don't take kindly to dat crap".

Poor ol Patrick had to go to jail.

Hey Langley just doesn't do atmospheric flight! I'm a PhD in Earth Systems and I'm focusing my dissertation on this mission, which is headquartered at Langley ( http://ceres.larc.nasa.gov/ ).

Of course each of the facilities have their own specialties but that's not to say there isn't research done on stuff that needs to exit the Earth's atmosphere and gravitational field! Last summer had the chance to see some of materials tested for Martian atmosphere entry for this mission: ( http://www.nasa.gov/directorates/s… ).

I suddenly feel like I have been out-nerded. My puny bachelor's engineering degree won't suffice for this

Lol pretty sure my Evo can't reach that speed. Haha there's no joke really, just wanted to get something creative because I will be doing some research with Langley Research Center!

I am an idiot. I don't even know high school physics. What is "earth systems"?

Fuck I feel dumb.

You could put 32.84 on a plate in NY you just couldn't have the period so itd be MACH3284

And that would be insanely too fast.

That's not a dumb question!

The program I am in:

http://ggs.gmu.edu/AcademicProgra…

Basically we used spaceborne equipment (satellites orbiting Earth) as well as sensors on the Earth, along with inputs from the Sun to conduct scientific analysis.
