I'm working at a different dealership than usual today, and it just so happens my main location had a car that needed to be shuttled to the place I was headed. Seeing a few gallons of free gas in my future, I took the car home last night so I could drive it to the other lot today.
This morning as I was putting together my breakfast, my girlfriend looked out our kitchen window and in a concerned tone of voice exclaimed, "What is THAT!?"
Thinking something was amiss in our vegetable garden, I walked over to have a look and asked her "What is what?"
"That car" she said, with a worried look on her face. "What IS that?"
"It's a Chevy Sonic" I told her.
"Oh." she said with a disgusted look. "It's so... round."
I'm not much of a fan either, though I do have to admit the leather is the softest I've ever felt in an econobox. Not that I'd ever buy a car like this with leather- I'd either save the money and buy a cheaper one, or spend that extra money on a better car.
So, there you have it. Is this evidence that women don't like Chevy Sonics? Hard to say. Because a nice car, in my girlfriend's eyes, is something like a classic AE86 or a MKIV Supra. And this is one of many reasons why she's so awesome and I love her.

Granted I'm a dude, but I don't think the Sonic is THAT bad. Its perfectly acceptable for what it is, basic transportation.
You have to admit, its better than the Spark. I'm not sure anyone over the age of 10 fits in one of those.

Yeah, it's not THAT bad, especially considering what kind of compacts GM was cranking out 10 years ago. I just found it really underwhelming.

So does the handbrake need tightening or did you squander your free car?

Don't quite get what you're asking...

The sedan looks very round and disproportionate. It's significantly better as a hatch.
And if you think that has the softest leather of an econobox (pretty sure it's leatherette), you should sit inside an RS. The seats in the RS are good enough they basically sold me on the car
EDIT: Oh yeah, the whole 'women don't like Sonics' thing. I had at least one woman make a comment about how 'cute' it is at a car show. So there's that.

I rented a new Sonic LTZ hatch for a week when I was in Florida in late 2012. I was surprised at its decency. I was expecting total painful shitbox and it wasn't bad, really. You're right about the leather.

The sedan doesn't look right. The hatch, on the other hand, looks great.

The Fiesta has this issue too, but people still buy them. No accounting for taste, I guess...

Meh, I like viking metal, but no one extrapolates that one out to all women ;)

And? His girlfriend's opinion doesn't extrapolate out to all women either...

I'll never understand why they even bother making sub-compact class cars as anything but hatch vehicles. I understand sedans sell better in the U.S. than hatchbacks, but you reach a point in diminishing returns in terms of overall usable space.
Sure, we probably all prefer compact-class vehicles to be hatches as well (I know I for one like the Focus and Mazda3 hatchbacks way more than their sedan counterparts) but they're at just the right size where it can still be usable.
But a sub-compact? They should just all be hatchbacks to maximize what little available space you have.

To be fair the sedan versions typically have larger trunks because they have more overhang in the back.
Other than the specific case where you need to take 4 people and lots of stuff, I don't see why anyone buys the sedan over the hatch for these subcompacts.

I saw the Dusy, such a pretty car. I'll host a game tonight. I think Oppo pack is up to 71 black and 142 white, in one night. It is amazing and I can still add on.

We're going to basically be living at that gas station for the rest of the week, I'll try to pop in though!

I'm a woman. I own a Sonic hatchback (with a turbo and 6-speed...) for my daily driver.
You should show her a hatchback one and see how she responds. The sedans are sooo ugly compared to the hatch.

Nope, I'm boring like that.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

I'd rather have a Spark. I think they look cooler, but i do wish they weren't 5 doors, the back doors IMO are useless, I mean how often are you gonna use those tiny rear seats?

Perfectly fine little car, and leagues ahead of the Aveo that preceeded it.

As the owner of a Sonic LTZ 1.4L turbo hatch, I concur on the leather and the non-shitbox-ness of the car overall. It wasn't my first choice, but I got it for a steal and haven't regretted it, although the fuel mileage is somewhat lacking in comparison with other subcompacts (~32-36 on average). It's got an aggressive front end and the wheel base of a go-kart to go with decent aftermarket support (into which warranty concerns have so far prevented me from investing too deeply).
