So, I waxed the 'Vette over the weekend. I used Meguiar's Gold Class wax, and I was pretty satisfied with it. What do you guys think?

Looks pretty darn shnazzy to me.
Sometime this month I think, I'll be ordering up some Chadwick's triple play to test out on my beatnik. Hope it goes well lol

It's lovely! Good job!

SUPA SEXYYYYY!!!!

I think you're lucky to have a Vette that nice. Oh that wasn't the opinion you were looking.

Why does this C4 look better than pretty much any other C4 I've ever seen.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 21:37 |

Thanks!
Cool! I was thinking about getting Chadwick's, but decided against it because I got the Meguiar's as a gift.

Thanks!

Very nice, meguiar's is considered good stuff.
I'm hesitant with the Chadwick's, but figured my car is kinda a beater right now so no better car to try it on than that! I plan on a full oppo writeup

Lol thanks:D
![]() 08/13/2014 at 21:41 |

Thanks! Yeah, I'm extremely thankful for it. Thankful that I found it, and thankful that my parents put up with it.

My mom wouldn't care as long as I paid for it and helped pay for the insurance.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 21:44 |

Thanks! Glad it looks so nice. I have a few goofy tips that my dad gave to me that he used on his 'Vette, but nothing major.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 21:46 |
|
Yeah, I'm pretty happy with it. Glad it worked out.
Yeah, you can't get better than that! I'll be sure to read the writeup.

Looks great!
![]() 08/13/2014 at 21:48 |

Well, they don't necessarily mind, since that's exactly what I did. It's just that I kinda took my dad's spot in the garage. He was expecting me to get something less nice, so I could just park it outside. When I got this, he said I could have the garage space. He seems to regret that now.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 21:48 |

Thanks!
![]() 08/13/2014 at 21:53 |

What does he drive? We don't have a garage so both of our cars are outside 24/7.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 21:54 |

It looks good, I just don't care for the durability (long lasting)
![]() 08/13/2014 at 21:57 |

By hand?
![]() 08/13/2014 at 21:57 |

He has a 2007 VW Rabbit. You can see it very faintly in the background of the third picture. He doesn't mind it in summer, when it is warm. Since I keep the 'Vette at the house until the beginning of November, though, its a bit cold for him in the morning. I've worked out a deal with him that, as long as the 'Vette can have the garage when it is here, I will park the Taurus outside when I have it.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 21:59 |
|
Yeah, that's what I'm waiting to see. It was only waxed four days ago, so the shine is still nice.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:01 |
|
Yep! Might use a buffer next time, though, just to see how it turns out.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:10 |
|
It looks great! Now I wanna wax my car... I don't have a buffer and I don't want to shell out $200 for something I don't know how to use haha..
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:12 |
|
Thanks! Yeah, this was only my second time doing it, and the first on this car. Trust me, you will be extremely satisfied when you get done with it.
I was considering using the buffer, but it just worried me for some reason. I think its a little better to do it by hand anyways.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:20 |

did you clay the car before waxing?
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:23 |
|
Sadly, I actually didn't. I would like to next time I wax it, though.

Makes me want to buy some Moon Boots and drink a New Coke.
Tubular.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:29 |

Looks good!
The Gold Class has a slightly nicer finish, but it wears off a lot faster than Meguiar's Ultimate. Thus, I prefer Ultimate. I have a stash of Gold Class, though, so I am attempting to use it all up so I have an excuse to purchase more Ultimate.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:34 |
|
Lol thanks! That might be the best possible comment for this.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:37 |

This reminds me that I haven't cleaned my Yota in months, nor have I ever really waxed it. Oh, well. The 20 footer is becoming a 50 footer.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:37 |
|
Thanks!
I was thinking about Ultimate, since I've heard a lot of people say the same thing. But then I got the Gold as a gift. So, needless to say, I'm happy with it.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:49 |
|
Eh, oh well.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:51 |

What saddens me is that it hasn't been dirty enough ,like in my avatar, for me to be annoyed enough to clean it.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:51 |
|
Shiny! Thats one clean C4, congrats!
![]() 08/13/2014 at 22:52 |

I don't even like Vettes, and that right there looks beautiful to me. Excellent work! Did you have to clay bar at all? Amazing how big a car seems to get when you really get down to paint care. Again, nice job!
![]() 08/13/2014 at 23:11 |
|
Thanks!
![]() 08/13/2014 at 23:16 |
|
Thanks! Glad you like it. Nope, I didn't have to clay bar it. I might do it next time though. Yeah, it really is crazy! I never thought it would take me as long as it did to do it.
![]() 08/13/2014 at 23:32 |
|
Last time I clayed I didn't wax, we're opposites haha.
![]() 08/14/2014 at 00:19 |

How did you like the gold class wax? Is it a harder or softer style wax? I'm especially impressed with what I'll call the no-distortion quality of your finish. The line on the back fender where it turns to be the deck looks like it would be very unforgiving in photos (reflection deviations magnify imperfections), and yours are great! Always looking for good advice on materials and experience. My car's black. In Colorado. (never again...)
![]() 08/14/2014 at 01:08 |
|
Personally, I'm extremely satisfied with how it turned out. It is a softer style wax, not the paste kind. The only complaints I've heard about it is that it does not last for as long as other waxes. It has only been four days since I waxed it, so I cannot really be the judge of that just yet. Yes, this car is not very forgiving when waxing. You do one thing wrong, and it is massively noticeable. So, needless to say, I'm glad it looks great! As for advice, I'm no expert on waxing. This is only my second time doing it. The only advice I can give is to not rush. That's just about it.
And I know your pain. My mother's Enclave is black. And we live in Michigan. Not fun at all.
![]() 08/14/2014 at 01:21 |
|
Thanks for the info! I'll have to try it. I need to clean mine up from the last track day, and before the next one. Where did the summer go?
Holy crap, a black Enclave? I bet it looks great, but that sure is a lot of real estate to keep clean. Michigan: is the tree sap/pollen/road salt trifecta as bad as everyone lets on? I've only been there in summer, and it seemed challenging for car care.
![]() 08/14/2014 at 01:36 |
|
No prob. What kind of ride do you have? I don't know where the summer went. I'm just irritated knowing that I have to start school soon.
Yeah. It doesn't look bad, but it is awful to drive. There are massive blind spots all over the place. I've been egging my mother on to get rid of it for a long time. She might be getting a CTS soon, so I'm extremely happy for that. And yes, it is as bad as everyone says it is. I personally think it is the worst state for cars. The sap and pollen is downright terrible, but the salt is the absolute WORST. It is nearly impossible to keep a clean car in Michigan winters.
![]() 08/14/2014 at 10:34 |

the gold class works well, specially on black
![]() 08/14/2014 at 16:46 |

The black car is a '78 280Z. I love it, but it is unforgiving on the cleanliness. We don't have the sap/salt issues, but we get unbelievable pine/spruce pollen in the spring (the Rockies dump it all on the Front Range), and a lot of dust (it's about as dry as you can be and not technically be a desert). Good luck with school! Narrowed in to major yet?
Blind spots in the Enclave, eh? I just figured with that much glass it probably had good visibility/sight lines. Another one of the high beltline issues, or is it pillar placement?
![]() 08/14/2014 at 23:32 |
|
Ah, now your username makes perfect sense! Got any pics of it? Yeah, it doesn't sound all that forgiving at all. And thanks! As for majoring, I'm just a sophomore in high school, so that's not really possible:D Would love to be in college right now, though.
And the blind spots are just awful. It is pillar placement. The pillar is just so huge and in such a bad spot. Add that to the sheer size of it, and its not very fun to drive.
![]() 08/15/2014 at 02:17 |

Yeah, I'm afraid I'm not real imaginative on the username. I live in Boulder, CO, I own a Z, and I'm a geologist, so BoulderZ (Boulder Z, boulders) makes as much sense as anything else I could come up with. I've used it on a bunch of forums and such, too, so I try to stick with it.
Sophomore in HS, awesome! Kick ass, take names, enjoy what you can and dismiss what you can't! College will be there when you are. Like Mr. K said, enjoy the ride.
Pics of my Z. I'll try to find more tomorrow. Here's one I put up in a post a month or two ago, jokingly subbing in my spare wheel and tire from my truck (Red '89 Toyota Xtra-Cab 2WD, another PITA for wash/wax). http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/stancebrotruck…

Eh, its no less creative than mine. I couldn't think of a username when I joined Oppo, so I just took the injection system from my car and added rage to it. Not sure why.
And yep! Not much to complain about there. High School can sometimes be a pain with all the standardized tests and whatnot, but I don't really have the right to complain. And I've never seen that Nissan commercial before. Deep stuff right there. Never knew that Nissan was about enlightenment. Good commercial, nonetheless.
Damn dude, that's a clean looking Z! I don't see many here in Michigan, since most here have rotted into the ground, sadly. I'm a GM guy, but I've always liked the Z. I Always thought it was a great looking car. Glad to see there are people like you out there who still care for them.

I kinda liked your username, original, bit of humor, not too long. Yeah, Mr K (Yutaka Katayama, an executive for Datsun in America way back then) was a very interesting person, above and beyond sort of being the father of the Z car. That's the old dude in the commercial, when Nissan was trying to tie together their longer history for American audiences who never quite got the whole Datsun/Nissan name difference thing. He had a motto something like, "Love people, love life, love cars", and centered the dealer training on respecting customers as people, enjoying the cars, doing the right things and the sales and money would follow in order. I don't know that he'd have much of a place in typical modern business, sadly. A shame, as it sure was a successful way to run things judging from the sales figures.
Thanks! I'll try to find my "before" pics and do a proper post sometime. It was a disaster when I bought it. Likewise, I'm glad Vettes have such a strong following. The world is a better place, in my view anyway, for having them around. The upper midwest is known for eating Z's. They were early unibodies, with some water management/drainage problems, and paint/rust-proofing technology was young and weak back then. Add in road salt, and it's over very quickly.
Saw you were doing some quick mods and upgrades on your car in your other post. Anything else for the Vette on the before-school-starts list?

Well, glad you do! Like I said, I just kinda thought of it randomly.
Oh, that makes sense now! Never knew about him. From what you're saying, he seems like a pretty great person altogether. That sounds like a dream dealership to me. Sadly, he really wouldn't have much of a place in today's cutthroat industry world. Also, what a great motto. I would frame that saying in my room if someone created it.
Cool! I would love to see more pics of it. Glad to hear that you basically saved it. Yeah, I'm generally pretty happy with the 'Vette crowd. Lots of them are genuinely nice people. I kinda figured it was known for eating up Z's. Quite honestly, its known for eating up just about any car possible.
Nope, those were really the only ones. I figured I would buck up and get the K&N and the air foil, since they were both pretty cheap for the horsepower gains that they give. I might add on a new Idle Sensor, but that's just about it.
