Somebody at my school came back today with a lowered white E30 convertible, which they left out in the lot for at least an hour...with the top down. Because that's a great idea.

What's so wrong with leaving the top down?

Something I learned driving a car where the top comes off, you just don't keep things around the car that could be attractive in a completely unattended vehicle. Then, the top just gets to stay off at the store, or wherever. Now if it's for a full day, that's different, don't be lazy.

If someone wants to steal a radio that badly, they're going to take it anyway. There are certainly some attributes that resemble an attractive nuisance, but a thief does not usually become a thief the first time they walk by a car. Not to say I don't see the point you're making, just saying that leaving a car with the top down is not the absolute worst thing to do.
