Kinja'd!!!

After living with an ancient second-hand Sony DLP TV for the past five years, I finally got tired of watching it grow dimmer ever day and decided to switch to a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . One shipping snafu later, it arrived this morning - fifteen minutes before I had to go to work. :(

So tonight, I plan on melding with this thing. Any suggestions on what to watch first in glorious 1080p? It's like I haven't cleaned my glasses in years.

Do you have any Mad Men blu-rays?

Since seriously, you wouldn't think that a show taking place mostly in an office building would be beautiful, but in HD, holy fuck. All the texture of the fabrics and shit just pops. It's the best looking show in HD I've yet to see.

Do you want to watch porn in full HD? I'm not sure I do.

Depends. Do you have HBO? Some of the action movies look great.

Have a PS/Blueray player? Go buy Avatar. I know I know, you've seen it, but it looks AWESOME in HD.

That's an excellent suggestion. I caught up on the first three seasons using low-quality streams before the fourth premiered, and the jump from those to a 720p broadcast was a holy shit moment for sure.

Just in case you didn't know, whatever you're watching will have to be in 1080p in order for the TV to actually display it at full 1080p.

So for instance, if you have cable but don't have the HD channels, you'll see the same thing you always have, except it's now bigger.

Much to my chagrin I already discovered that Time Warner Cable only broadcasts in 1080i and usually 720p, so I hear you.

Make sure it's in 1080p from the source, none of that low-res streaming junk. Download, Blu Ray, or HD Netflix.
