Ugh. Floods fucking suck. Here's me in my parent's back yard a couple of years ago, retrieving the shop-vac from under the porch. That thing got used for a week straight.

Where are your parents at? When I lived in the lower mainland our house flooded once but it was nothing like that.

Thats the worst, I remember a few years back ours flooded and the sump couldn't keep up. Promptly went out and bought one with a whole 1HP and man that sucker moves some water

The last time it flooded, we had a carpet flooring and we swapped it for vinyl flooring because the carpet soaked all of the sewer water and gunk. We bought a shop vac for that and it's lost in storage now.

Kamloops. A sudden, massive downpour overwhelmed what little drainage there is in the neighbourhood. It happened again in Kamloops on July 23 this year, but our area was mostly spared.

The pic above is from July 25, 2012 , and a similar flash flood happened July 26, 2011 . Apparently these "one-in 100-year rain events" happen three out of every four years.
