It looks great, and I've heard that it doesn't play like a Sim, but rather more arcade/Sim (like Forza). Anyone with experience want to chime in on how this is?

If this is as good as it seems like it will be, this could be the game that makes me get an XBox One.

Because graphics yo. Also I can't really comment on that because I have a PS4 and a PC. I'm not spending $500 for Fiveza or even $200 for Fourza. Maybe if I get some monies. But a car will come first.

I'm going to be very disappointed if the audio isn't at least as good as Forza's. Forza has the best audio (strictly in terms of engine noise) in the business right now and even that could be better. I think the Dirt games manage to nail the rest of the race car noises better than Forza does. Most racing games concentrate almost entirely on visuals and everything else except audio, and we're left with fun to play games with totally uninspiring audio to back it up. Just look at Gran Turismo. I want a game that REALLY captures the thunder of car engines, especially race cars. From some of the video of this game that I've seen, the audio wasn't that good. I'm hoping it was mostly placeholder.

I also hope they go for a Forza level of realism, maybe even slightly more. I just don't want it to be unplayable with a gamepad, as most PC racing sims are. Forza has really nailed gamepad controls.

I'm so tired of the games where all the cars sound almost the same. Fourza was pretty guilty of this, but they've done much, much better in Fiveza. Of course, I'd rather put all of the money towards my real car, rather than vidya game cars.

All the cars sound the same? Are you nuts? Almost every car has an engine noise unique to it. They physically place microphones in the cars and run them on dynos!

I'd put my money toward a real car, but I can't drift/rally it on streets :(. Also, tires be mad expensive, yo.

Well, you CAN drift/rally on the streets, it's just rather frowned upon. But yeah, I know what you mean.

Forza is a Sim

Project Cars is a Sim

Gran Turismo is a Sim

If anyone tells you other wise they have an agenda or they don't know what an Arcade racer is.

For starters this game is nothing like Forza or Gran Turismo. If anything it is a combination of the two. It has Forza's cars, audio and detail and GT's Track, weather and Variety.

Fortunetly Slightly Mad know what they are doing so rather importantly this game does work with a Gamepad. Not as well as Forza but better than GT.

The handling like all racing games is subjective. I for one rather liked it. It felt like Grid without the constant Drifto action going on. Whether or not it is realistic is irrelevant as no racing game available comes close to the realism of real life driving. However like AC, Forza, iRacing, GT and many other Sims (not Grid) it does feel authentic which is the most important aspect of a Sim.

The cars all feel different as they should due to the massive variety.

Tuning and mods are included but not on the same level as Forza.

The AI becomes worse the more cars are on the track so keep it reasonable.

The Career mode appears to be very well structure like a good Codemasters game.

Should you pre-order? FUCK NO! Pre-ordering is dumb, wait for first impressions and reviews before deciding as always unless you plan to play all games coming out regardless of quality.

Do I think it will be any good? Yup. I have full confidence in all the driving games coming out this year especially Project Cars. People may say it doesn't play like a sim but they are talking bollocks and don't understand what an arcade racer is but that doesn't matter because from what I have played it is fun if you are into serious racing. No using other cars as brakes doesn't count as serious racing.

Sorry to keep harping on about this but this is arcade racing.

Also Simcade is a legit term but not for a game where you can adjust brake balance.

Not quite IMO, I like to thing that the games mentioned above are arcade/sims, games like GTR 2, Race 07, and RFactor are full on sims.

I'd say that the games you listed are Hardcore Sims. For example I can jump into Forza put on a bunch of assists and then slowly ramp it up until I'm fiddling with input settings and tuning mechanics. The Hardcore sims offer none of this. They demand your respect from the get go. You will use a proper driving line. You will understand what a braking zone is. You will use a steering wheel and not a pad. You will not use other cars as brakes and most importantly drifting means you are going slow and therefore not allowed.

A worrying amount of people seem to use the term arcade as a way of putting other sims down but this is both rude to the sims in question and arcade racers and needs to go away.

Well, in Sims like that everything is customizable, and you can turn on assists and stuff, but I do see what you mean.

And yeah I play all sorts of racing games, so I know why people play arcade games lol.

Given our other conversation on Burnout it is clear you aren't a racing snob. If only more people weren't so focused on one type of racing game, it would do the genre a lot of good.

I heard that it's Shift 3.5. Stunning graphics, but by far no rival for Assetto Corsa in the physics department. Also modding capabilities are not as developed.
