Because my Dell with an i7 and 8GB of memory is running worse than my Mac with an i5 and 2GB of memory.
My dad's fixing it, so it's all good!
According to him, too many background programs are running.
Oh, and I had updates... I'm not good about checking that.

Also why does your mac with an i5 have 2gb ram? the last mac to come with 2gb ram had ddr2 ram and a core 2 duo processor. I didnt even think an i5 mac could even support that low of ram space

Macbook Air thats why, it uses a weird ram configuration. Also, this post is why Im a mac guy. by buying a mac, you are buying reliability and assured quality components

It was working perfectly fine until a week or so ago. Then it got really slow.
Or, you know, the same time all these updates and stuff started showing up...

I think it's safe to say you have some bias in this.
Not to mention we're still using a 10 year old Dell desktop as our main computer without any issues.
And it always seems to be ONLY MY LAPTOP that this happens to. Never my brother who has the exact same computer. -___-

Friends don't let friends buy Dell. Dell is the anti-christ to computers now in the same way that a Prius (or something similar) is the anti-christ to cars.

My dad's bought nothing but Dell since the late 90s. We've had multiple computers go 10 years or more without issues. The odds of him converting to something else is slim to none. Hey, it could be Toshiba.
My laptop seems to be the only one this kind of stuff ever happens to. Hell, even my brother who has the exact same computer doesn't ever have these issues.

I wasn't gonna say anything, but some people in this thread are too smart for their own good. :)
Anyway, ask your father how he keeps his computers clean and happy. It'll save you headaches. And he'll prolly feel good that he gets to pass on some knowledge.
The money you save by not buying overpriced other brands will buy you quite a few miles of smiles worth of dino juice. Just handle the computer with care and it will serve you for years.
Keep on trucking.
